GOP Insanity Containment: Beets, Gazpacho, and Lube

Why are these clowns still listening to Trump? He’s not on social media and AFAIK, not holding press conferences. Just tell him to fuck off. I know, I know, this is the GOP we are talking about.

They don’t want to get Andres Escobar-ed.

I think it’s right to expel, but there’s been precisely zero expulsions from Congress without a criminal conviction since the civil war.

There’s been several resignations in the face of ethics violations… but that would require an ability to be shamed.

I mean, the republican congress couldn’t even expel indicted criminals from their own party. Sure, they lost their committee seats, but they were still there for full floor votes.

I think it’s natural for us to bemoan the insanity, especially given how close we came to complete ruin, but this is a terrible electoral and political strategy from the GOP. Running actual crazy people is risky at best.

Do political parties have any veto powers about who runs as a candidate under their label? Seems like they should, but also seems like they don’t.

Also these actual crazy people DGAF about tax cuts and deregulation. The “court the crazies to steal the money” strategy doesn’t work under majority leader QAnon.

My mom texted me asking if Q could be found and arrested. I told her it was probably that guy in the Philippines.

Then literally in the next text she asked me if I’ve heard of something called The Bible Code. “it’s not religious but describes a real sci-fi code that has described current events from thousand years ago. You might enjoy it. Supposedly by atheist high level techies.”

Sigh. There are dangerous cults and slightly more benign cults that did most of their damage 100s of years ago.

Things like political primaries instead of caucuses have been part of a trend to make it harder for party elites to dictate candidates. Generally, parties can do things to make it harder for certain candidates, but lack hard veto power over anyone who has a decent amount of public support.

Its terrible if you don’t want to get your face eaten, dislike civil unrest and/or are queasy about outright stealing power in this country and then never giving it up. Not terrible if you are willing to leverage the strong tilt of political power towards Rs to outright stealing elections.

This might be the right thread. I watched White Noise by The Atlantic. It was a documentary following alt right activists Richard Spencer, Lauren Southern and Mike Cernovich.

First off do not watch this film if you have heart problems. We know how terrible these people are but seeing it up close and personal makes it even worse.

Second off I’m not sure the execution of the film was good at all. Very little push back was shown and I’m afraid if someone headed down the alt right path were to watch this they would look up to these people and what they’ve accomplished rather than pick up on the subtle hypocrisy and opportunism the film depicts.

All in all it felt like a film for liberals to go oh wow look how crazy those people are, aren’t they so crazy and racist?

My mom is back to openly saying Covid-19 is man made by the Chinese in a lab in Wuhan. It’s painful.

Heh, the party insiders supported MTG’s primary bid.

Man depressing stuff in the thread. My mother has schizophrenia and the worst thing she says is someone breaks in to her house and steals her teeth and replaces them with other teeth and also attempts to yank her arms out of their socket while she sleeps.
