GOP Insanity Containment: Beets, Gazpacho, and Lube

Yeah, I mean you can’t avoid them. They’re everywhere! It’s astounding how susceptible people are to brainwashing

An absolute imbecile took over an entire party. In a 2 party system.

The venn diagram of “Joe Paterno defenders” and “Trump voters” is a circle.

Seriously this.

The scary part is that there is no line. I can’t think of a single monstrous act that would cross the line for these GOP scum. If he were caught on video raping a little girl in the oval office, I have no reason to think Republicans would convict on impeachment. Rather, they would invent some justification or false narrative around it. So how do you deal with an entire group of people who have no bottom? I don’t see how we ever come back from this

Fight a war and win it.

Lmao no

From left to right, the primary candidates were Bernie, Warren, then Steyer and Pete, then I dunno, Castro and Booker, I guess, then Klob, the random white congressmen, then Biden.

Just because someone sounds moderate doesn’t mean they are more “centrist”. None of it means anything, anyway. Around here, there’s only one issue that defines leftism, and if you aren’t in lockstep, you’re a neoliberal corporate shill.

Er, with what?

I’ve always argued that we need to think about coming up with ways to answer that question.

Who you talking to?

But seriously, it’s a good example of why insistence on being in lockstep on every single issue is a huge impediment to the greater cause. I’m nowhere near as knowledgeable or up to date on politics as many here, but I’m certainly more in tune than the average American. The way progressives trash Pete, I honestly thought he was basically a Republican with a D next to his name

There is no winning a civil war in the US. We would break up into a million little factions some of which would be armed with nukes…Basically mad max on steroids be my guess.

Better off going hard core states rights or secession. Both probably lead to wars too though so what are you going to do.

You can’t really have cities secede from rural areas or vice versa. The reason the Senate is so problematic is that states are an obsolete concept that shouldn’t really matter anymore because they are based on land and not people.

A state like California could secede and then its people who dont like what they pretend is communism could move to Texas and vice versa.

And on that civil war… The right in this country is highly armed and trained comparatively. In the past id put no money on any group on the left of the spectrum winning. Now with the trump scare that is changing but its still lopsided. Be a bunch of right wing warlords vying for power chopping off heads for the most part.

If California secedes, the first step of the leftover states should be to fill Lakes Powell and Mead to capacity. Is your plan for everyone who would rather live in California than Texas and don’t already live there to migrate west?

I’m not saying the left would win a civil war, but I have been operating out of the belief that some sort of reckoning might be inevitable, although it might take the form of an insurgency rather than outright war with armies in the field. If it is inevitable and secession isn’t an option, how should we prepare?

Its a deep fake, we all know Hillary and the Dems are the real pedophiles, they deep faked Trumps face onto one if them. Its all part of the scam, I do my own research.

Maybe we could try not being the worst of the right by knowingly lying for rhetorical purpose over an over?

These are all lock step GOP policies, hey? :roll_eyes:I know you know this. What I don’t understand is the pathological need to lie to attack someone you don’t perfectly align with politically. There are real policy differences to bring up which are both true and fair debate but instead two word smear is the level of discourse you seem interested in having.

Whether the mainstream Democratic establishment and Republicans are aligned or not depends on what issues you stress. If abortion and gay rights are among the things you care most about, then the two parties are not particularly close. If you care most about opposing capitalism and military interventionism–not in terms of want to regulate capitalism and practice military restraint so as to moderate their excesses but in outright wanting 0% of either–then it’s not that crazy to see someone like Barack Obama as closer to Mitt Romney than to you.

I agree with Victor about using the rhetorical tactic of othering your political enemies–which is really what he is doing–even if I don’t necessarily agree with who the enemy is. I might argue that he’s being a bit heavy-handed with it in a way that isn’t likely to work on the people who post here, but maybe it’s good to practice.

It’s the exact same rhetorical laziness of calling everyone a Nazi.

Even if you’re right about that you know what Victor said wasn’t a “lie.”

Pete is not a republican by any reasonable definition of the word. He doesn’t agree with 98% of republican policy and wouldn’t get 5% of the vote in a republican primary. I don’t know what else to call claiming he is a republican.

Done right, it’s not laziness, it’s propaganda. Politics isn’t a polite debate in an Enlightenment salon.
