Yeah that’s the part I’m worried about with my team, gonna need to get some healthy players in the later rounds for the inevitable games missed.
Tbh i think the combination of 30+ Kwahi and Harden with prime Iverson is a disaster waiting to happen, but who knows.
Fwiw i only had 2.5 players i considered and i was referring to Wade here
I don’t remember how good of a defender Wade was, he made all-D three times and put up pretty sick steal numbers but I don’t recall him being a great 1 on 1 guy.
Wowowoow was not expecting Klay!
Was not the correct pick I was thinking, but might be even better…
I’ll go Manu - 2003-04 through 2007-08.
There are probably a few better players left, but feel he’s the ideal third banana on a super team and great fit with Shaq and Paul. Elite shooter who plays very well off-the ball, and can be a secondary ball handler when needed. Also played elite team D (no idea how he never made an All-Defense team). Think he’d pair well with Paul in terms of harassing and annoying opposing ball handlers.
You’ll have a real hard time making your team not my 2nd favorite (at least in terms of teams I’d like to watch). Love the trio.
Some of these teams are total clusterfucks, good lord.
I like Klay as a pick and was hoping to slot him in at 2 at some point but I have serious reservations about him actually being a plus defender. He’s negative box every single year of his career so far. And, like, while the models don’t always tell the whole story and BPM suffers from notoriously inefficient estimates due to collinearity, something really weird would have be going on for the combination of 1) Klay is a good defender and 2) DBPM is meaningful to be true.
I realize it’s a valid concern and why it’s more of a heart pick than a nerdy one. But it’s also really hard to ignore the eye test on Klay D, especially in on-the-ball defense.
wait what? how will you ever even know?
Wha
I mean I’m just taking guys I think are good based on what’s left and approaching it sort of like I would a fantasy draft. Is that wrong? maybe idk wtf I’m doing
I’ll just keep doing me and yall can explain how I fucked it up after it’s all over
Thats the whole point as i understand it. Everyone building a team however they want and explain (or not) why they think its a good team and the others give their opinion on the teams. We’re all doing us.
To me this means trying to pick a cohesive team that would play well (as i imagine it) with each other. Obv we would never know who’s right.
Since we’re not drafting coaches, I thought I’d throw this question out. How far down your coaching board would you have to go before you pick a coach not currently in the NBA? I think we seem to prefer the analytics bent of the modern NBA and a lot of us are citing those principles in our choices.
Would anyone take Phil Jackson over Doc Rivers as the coach of their team?
I would definitely take in his prime Phil over Doc.
I think Phil may not have been some master tactician (the triangle obviously was very overrated), but he did a good job getting the most out of his players. I also think he was smart enough that he would adapt to the modern NBA (I’m ignoring his time with the Knicks as at that point it seems like he was just cashing a check).
While your point with Phil is true, Doc gets a lot out of his players. His COTY was taking a tanking team with this roster:
and getting them to go .500. Last year’s Clippers team wasn’t supposed to make the playoffs, even moreso after a big trade, but there they were taking GS to 6 games w/ a healthy Durant. Obviously he was super successful in Boston too.
They’re both bad GMs is the thing. The Chris Paul led Clippers were woefully thin bc of Glen. Now that Lawrence Frank has the gig, things have been running smooth.
Phil vs Brad Stevens would be a better dilemma. I take Phil bc he’d know how to deal with the uber talent where I think Brad isn’t a strong enough personality for anything but young guys and/or scrappers.
A little. But like I said, I prefer to draft non-teammates if possible.
I thought I might be able to get him as a later round pick if I holstered a historic pick. For some reason I thought he’d slip.
Some casuals are gonna be like wtf at Manu, Wade, and TMac going ahead of the elephant.
I love Manu fwiw. He’s a scout’s delight, even if the counting stats aren’t there.
