Graphic prettay much says it all. Led the league in minutes four of five years in this stretch, ppg two of five and steals two of five. Arguably the most valuable player to his team in his era and particularly during this stretch.
Best little man of all time. I imagine playing next to stars would significantly increase his efficiency. If had Isiah’s supporting cast he probably wins 2 or 3 titles.
I feel like Iverson’s value on teams like this is super depressed. His value was in creating his own shot, but they were never particularly efficient shots. He also adds limited value off-ball. He works on a team built around that - but when you have other more efficient offensive players, I’m not sure what value he adds.
I also don’t think his efficiency goes up that much player with better players. Unlike Harden’s current undrafted teammate, Iverson was never a good finisher, so I don’t think having more space to attack helps that much. He was also a bad three shooter, so again I don’t think the spacing helps there. His best shot was the midrange and while more spacing might help some, it’s still not going to be a shot you want him to take rather just giving the ball to Harden or Leonard.
Alright, I made my decision and I’m comfortable enough to say it’s probably not the best one or close to it, but you gotta go with your heart.
When drafting a super team, you are always tempted to pick the most talented players. The flashiest stat lines. But I already have two of the best play makers at their positions. I want Luka to guide this team offense. Do I really want former MVPs here? Usage leaders? Also, do I want to imagine how an all-star player would play along side elite usage monsters, or maybe I want to pick one who has already been successful at it.
Luka is a goddamn genius, but he lacks on D and is not the best 3 point shooter yet (he will be, just look at his FT% improvement this year). Pippen was an okay 3 point shooter but not the best. So in my mind, my biggest concerns are elite shooters who excel off-the-ball and can suffocate opposing guards and wings on D.
But most of all, my biggest concern of all was keep the swag to a max.
He’s going to have great spacing to get to the rim unlike close to anything he ever had.
In AS games he’d play more like an actual point guard. 8.43 assists/36 w/ games of 11, 10, and 9. I think that portends well to how he’d fit.
I don’t think it’s great value and I probably wouldn’t draft him personally tbh, but I think imagining it is fun. Harden and AI should be largely staggered as primary ball handler with Kawhi as the secondary w/ either.
He did pick current players w/ first two picks so he still has three historic slots and AI would’ve been an amazing 6th man. (Wouldn’t accept irl obv but again, look how he’d defer in AS games so maybe?)
eta: I think his finishing would improve in the modern era w/ the trees not being as imposing plus the additional spacing. Perhaps that won’t be true in this league of 9 tho.
Quickest, most perfect release OAT. His lower body could be doing absolutely anything and up top it’s flat and his shoulders are straightened. When I saw him pull up for three on the break for the first time as a rookie I was like woah, that’s gorgeous. I was his biggest fan in TZ before the consensus came around on him, I didn’t care if it mirrored a casual take at different points: Klay is the fucking man.
I wish I could give this pick more hearts. @mjiggy is up
Well, I think there are two or three historic players left who are probably BPA so I’m going with the one who I would have rather played with and who will hopefully fit in better with my team and take 2008-09 Dwyane Wade. This was his best stretch from a games played standpoint and dude was mostly balling out, putting up massive stats and scoring pretty efficiently for someone who was never good from 3 (at or just below .500 those years), which so far isn’t a problem for me having Steph on the roster. He’s also the kind of athlete who can run with my first 2 picks. He gets hurt and has a bit of a fall off during the 4th year but that’s also when he starts having to share with LeBron, and we all know how that ended up.
