Can’t you get double orange chicken?
too rich for me
Mushroom chicken is a solid thid choice. Yes, its extra chicken but it isnt overly rich and will get you to the full line
Two entrees with rice and noodles?
3 entrees? Wat
Never been to Panda Express so if the entrees are tiny this makes more sense, or you just get a bunch of leftover meals out of it
Recommend you do what my family does -
Go to Panda Express once a year to remind yourself how much you dislike it.
I don’t understand the appeal of Panda Express. I’ve never lived anywhere that didn’t have some local Chinese joint selling better versions of everything on their menu for the same price.
For me, I worked at a Sears in a mall and there were only so many places I could walk to and I’d put Panda Express above most of the standard options in a mall food court circa 2005.
2 entree, double orange chicken, fried rice
I only eat Panda Express when location and speed matter. I’ve had local Chinese food that is worse.
It’s one of the cheaper tolerable options when I am in Vegas.
2 entree, orange chicken + Mongolian beef, white rice, with a side of regret
Whataburger left some coupons at my work so I decided to go over there and settle the debate over it once and for all with a single visit. For reference I probably haven’t eaten anything there in over a year and the last time I got something that wasn’t a jalapeno cheddar breakfast biscuit was at least five years ago. I used a coupon for a spicy chicken sandwich with the purchase of a drink and fries. They also had a banana pudding shake and since I love banana pudding I figured I’d better get a small one in case this is my one and only visit to Whataburger.
One thing I noticed was that the inside was empty but the drive through was pretty busy, so I went inside rather than risk getting stuck behind a big order. The drink selection was one of the better I’ve seen from a standard fountain machine - it had Diet Dr. Pepper and Coke Zero, which are the two drinks I’d normally seek out. In any case the wait was relatively long for fast food, although I suppose that’s the sacrifice you make for getting your food made to order (I think?). They handed me the thick-as-a-brick shake right away at least; they claim it’s 460 calories but it felt like there was a lot of shake in it. The only thing I can think to compare it to is the banana cream pie shake and I’d say they’re pretty similar, although I haven’t had one of those forever either. Tasted pretty strongly of artificial banana but with a definite whiff of ‘banana pudding.’ Very thick and satisfying to drink. I’d give it a solid B, maybe even a B+ depending on my mood.
When I finally got my order and got into my car, I noticed that they gave me a second order of fries, for which I will award them 5 bonus points (points are meaningless). The fries were about as average for fast food fries as you can get - a little soggier than I would have preferred but not terrible. Their ketchup seemed a bit cloying to me and the spicy ketchup was just kind of strange, although passable. Fries get a C.
Last item was the spicy chicken and this was also the best part of the meal. Appeared to be all white meat, no gristle, and even had a little kick. The bun was spongy in a good way, if not a little too thick. I don’t like tomatoes on my sandwich so I didn’t get any but the pickles were fairly well populated. I’d say it was comparable to a top-notch Wendy’s spicy chicken and therefore would give it an A (for fast food). Unfortunately unless they’re really consistent this probably means I should just go to Wendy’s if I want a comparable experience with better fries.
found a szechuan hole in the wall takeout place today and their “mild” has me really excited.
no one ever does spicy correctly. trend nowadays is these 3 bazillion scoville sauces that are basically pure capsacin, no flavor at all. good heat is a mix of flavor and heat, they dance together.
my butthole is not thrilled. actual fast food wise, if hooters can be included that’s been the hottest thing I can find so far other than this.
Yeah, Da Bomb hot sauce is an afront to the entire culinary world. Wtf is the point of adding heat with zero flavor? I absolutely hate absurd hot sauces that taste like shit.
I tried some Panda Express last weekend. Can confirm two entrees is not quite enough. It would be great if meals came with an eggroll and a cup of soup.
yea they lowered their portion sizes a lot, at least where i am. it used to be really big. orange chicken still fantastic though
I had a niece growing up who calles it sugar chicken.
Pretty much spot on
I had a culinary thing for a few weeks last year where I was trying to recreate at home my favorite fast food items, I tried panda-style orange chicken, could never come close to what they’ve done, it’s perfection
Had probably the best egg roll of my entire life tonight from a local place, they’re always good but tonight the stars aligned.
Egg rolls are definitely an underrated food since many people associate them with terrible frozen versions at crappy buffets. But a good egg roll is very good.
after subway quality has taken such a drastic and puzzling hit over the last decade (I blame jared the pedophile), I’ve been needing a fast sandwich replacement for a while now. I try to frequent the really local places but none of them deliver or are hooked up to postmates/doordash for some unexplainable reason so lately I can’t… For a bit it was jimmy john’s, which I still really like, but I gotta be in the mood for their bread and there isn’t one close by to me, so I started eating Jersey Mike’s.
What a great sandwich. They’re just really solid. For $13 it damn well better be, but it is. They don’t do anything innovative, it’s just clearly very very fresh, and their ratios are flawless every time. Hat’s off to you, mike from jersey
