Fall LC thread

I’d think most people with a gazillion dollars that didn’t know what to do with it would, at a minimum, stumble in to some type of functioning haircut.

Amazon is a pretty amazing story too, evil as it is. It failed to turn a profit for its first seven years in existence iirc, most companies would have folded in such a scenario. Yet now it’s a behemoth, destroying us all. Pretty impressive

I’ve found some (mostly publicly available, but thus far unreported) damning information regarding a minor local government scandal that is currently breaking. I’m going back and forth between forwarding it to my local councilman who is amazing, or a local news outlet, or doing nothing. Thoughts?

Media has bigger impact

Publish the story on Unstuck Politics.

Honestly it’s very dull. It came out yesterday that the city has not been billing a large luxury condominium complex for water for something like 10 years. Suspiciously, the director of public works resigned last week unexpectedly.

Through my job I’ve got access to some tools that make it easy for me to look at a google maps type thing and see whether properties have active water consumption. There are a lot of other large luxury condominium buildings that also, strangely enough, show that they have no water usage. There are also other condo buildings that do show active usage so I’m reasonably sure that it’s not just a glitch in how condo billing is displayed.

I honestly think it’s 50/50 between incompetence and someone in DPW getting kickbacks for this. And the director’s resignation could swing either way really.

This actually sounds pretty juicy. And local politics are the most important politics. I like micros idea

I’d let the memes decide. Truest form of democracy.

Any reason not to do both?

You’re right. It is boring.

jk

Do both imo, tell city council and call your local paper.

I don’t think that’s boring at all. I mean it’s standard corruption, but it’s definitely corruption. It only being luxury condo’s and some but not all of them makes me think it’s more likely to be corruption than incompetence. Don’t get me wrong they are going to claim incompetence but that seems unlikely to me.

Bonus points if the luxury condo’s share an owner/developer obv.

Send it through official channels but keep the receipts (optionally let them know you are doing this) and be prepared to go to media if satisfactory action isn’t taken.

Plus, the drama of the piece is as much about the frame and style of reporting as it is about the content. You can sensationalize anything, but another way of looking at it is you can add weight to the things a journalist believes deserves the public’s attention and emotional investment.

I rarely remember my dreams. I remember two from last night. One, a woman is orange light and lightning effect star trek transported to hell as she says, “you don’t care, I don’t care”. Two, a fat orange cat causes mayhem and death, escaping capture in the end by diving through a hole in a wall that is seemingly too small for it to fit through. Where could these images possibly originate?
