Even my boomer parents quit Facebook. I don’t know anyone who uses it. When my kid’s public school tried using Facebook to tell people about snow days, people revolted. Who is using it?
About a billion and a half users a day.
I’m proud to be in the majority.
The right wing version of this site would be Uncucked Politics.
The Incel version: unfucked
Dude at my startup (from Brisbane) said he couldn’t travel to the US because an indigenous planted crystal meth in his car (lol). Is meth a problem among the indigenous?
I use it for hiking groups and it was indispensable for my big road trip. The Pan-American group on FB is now the primary resource for “overlanders” since the Driving the Americans forum kinda died.
I don’t have any love for FB, but it’s useful.
My true hatred is for Instagram and everything associated with it. Influencers are ruining everything that is good in the world. The images look like shit in that small format - which encourages eye-catching gaudy colors and composition that comes across on a phone.
The hiking group I met on the mountain and go hiking with sometimes now is on FB.
Instagram and SoundCloud are WOAT if for no other reason than knowingly disrupting the interface to promote discovery
Not especially, to my knowledge. It’s like the opiate crisis in the US, it’s taken hold in places without much of an economy going on. There’s not really a racial component. Also I’m pretty sure people planting meth in other people’s cars isn’t a thing.
Zuck seems like an outlier type who might not exactly fit into the groups of people that have mountains of research about them on this topic.
Some people, a lot of people, don’t have the imagination to think of any other way of doing things.
I’m not excusing Zuck. I just think he’s an incredibly limited person whose only MO is to continue making money despite being unable to think of anything useful to do with it all.
Mountains of research shows people gain a huge part of their life satisfaction and self worth from working.
Well that’s sad and pathetic, society would be much better off if we could somehow change that
For real though. Having something to do is a core part of the human experience.
Sure but have that something be hookers and blow rather than eternal dominance of the human experience to the detriment of all.
Hookers and blow has a very low ceiling for diminishing returns… just saying. It’s like most recreational stuff that way.
Something to do is very vague.
I know if I didn’t have to do work that is recognized as valuable to GDP to support a family I would still have “something to do”, it just wouldn’t be busy work that doesn’t add anything meaningful to society.
