There is also a super popular meme right now with genz. Basically says saying ok boomer to whatever dumb shit they say. Acknowledging they’re dumb and dont listen to reason or believe facts.
Not the funniest meme but it’s nice to see genz realizing how garbage boomers are.
It’s getting more and more obvious as they age honestly. I’ve heard the same sob story about getting replaced by someone younger and cheaper more times than I can recall from mediocre white guy boomers who felt entitled to a really good job.
I used to feel bad for them when I was in my early 20’s because I had no experience and hadn’t ramped up to full productivity yet… but now that I’m in my mid 30’s I realize that it was all bullshit. They weren’t justifying their high salary anymore so they got cut loose. Welcome to capitalism? Aren’t you a Republican/Libertarian?
My wife (not quite a boomer) always complains about millennials. My daughter, (15 so not a millennial), gets unduly upset about the generalizations. She told me about this meme last Friday and started saying it “OK Boomer” in response to my wife’s millennial comments.
Your wife is the asshole here. Sorry not sorry. Older Gen X’ers are barely better than Boomers. Some of them are Boomers for all intents and purposes. We hate you all.
Can’t disagree. She does it mostly playfully, but when my daughter complains, she doesn’t say “I’m just kidding” and back off, she does what her entire family does–she doubles down and prepares for the 2-hour argument about how shiftless millennials are. Then my daughter, who is not a millennial and knew it was 51% a joke, doubles down and we’re off to the races.
I kinda think all this inter-generational hate is bullshit and just a distraction, like racism and other “isms,” that keep us from paying attention to who the real enemy is: the monied elites, aka capitalists.
I’m in So. Cal., and a lot of this “intergenerational hate” relates to the fact that, e.g., 40 years ago a lawyer could buy a decent house on 2 years’ salary. Now that lawyer has student debts that amount to two years’ salary, and the house is 5 years’ salary. This goes for many other occupations and professions. Too many millenials and Gen X feel like they’ve gotten the short end and are told to “deal with it.”
Add that to the fact if no one over 65 voted, Trump would have lost in a landslide, and it feels like the least engaged segment is calling the shots, and they shots they are calling suck.
Finally, pile on the inverted pyramid of benefits, where a substantial share of social service funding goes to retirees, while young people can barely afford to marry or start families, leading to literal population decline, and there’s plenty of room for resentment.
Don’t forget that our mid-70s lawyer got through law school by working a part-time summer job and refuses to understand that kids today can’t just do that.
tl;dr there’s a huge vacant mall directly south of Apple’s new campus that Cupertino residents are refusing to allow to be redeveloped into housing because half of that housing would be affordable and we don’t want to ruin property values for already insanely rich people.
