Why do you think economically motivated undocumented immigrants come here? Isn’t it specifically to work these types of jobs for low wages? There’s not really any difference between your view and people who want to lock down e-verify type systems so immigrants “self-deport.”
They come here because NAFTA and CAFTA, along with American subsidies especially of corn, have devastated their rural economies. That and the drug war and global warming (drought in Central America).
I should note that while I have no idea what the higher up immigrants make, the ones who get hired on new make the exact same wages as those with citizenship. Though probably still cheaper if they don’t have to pay for their healthcare. But from my understanding the majority of young people at least don’t opt in for the healthcare anyways. They’d rather have the larger paycheck and hope they don’t get sick. If you make $15 an hour in CA, the hundreds of dollars out of your check can be devastating.
I think the above is pretty normal for businesses in CA at least. The non citizens use fake SSN and the employers pretend to not know and treat them like normal employee’s.
Yes, that is completely standard. Solar is a little different, but I interact with a lot of other trades people/businesses and for people like roofers it’s pretty hard for them to stay business if that’s not what they do. A recent exception I did a job where there was a roofing crew onsite and based on the English proficiency, age and music I expect they were all born in the US (still 100% Hispanic crew) and lord they were an awful crew.

I’m a pretty extremist when it comes to borders. I think they should be virtually totally open. I also see little value in the idea of citizenship.

You may now remove your tongue from your cheek. The place is a straight-up, no-holds-barred hate site. There are hundreds of unmoderated posts that qualify as hate speach. What a cesspool.
