I feel like Frum is paraphrasing Twain or another writer. It sounds awfully familiar.
Social networks only work because don’t want to feel like they are missing out.
If enough people leave twitter it would no longer be the most popular discussion platform.
I am sympathetic to the rest of your post but I don’t think the pros outweigh the cons
I think Stancil’s view is that choosing not to fight on Twitter is letting the Nazis win in real life so if the Nazis want a fight, better give them one.

What did they win, though? Their entire being is centred around owning the libs. If the libs aren’t there to own, what good is the site?
if we give complete and total control of the discourse on the platforms to the nazis almost everyone ends up consuming, the same nazis that also control the govt and markets, what can possibly go wrong?

They win the narrative. And because social media has eliminated the barrier between perception and reality, they control hearts and minds. This is my interpretation of what he’s been hammering for months anyway.
I’m not entirely convinced but Twitter is still incredibly influential because real media is still there and more and more what they see is Elon and friends’ bullshit which they then communicate to others on other platforms because they think Twitter is the real world.
Mussolini was the first really successful fascist. Where did he get his start? He was a journalist.

Bluesky links don’t embed very well. You get some text but no video or pics.
I want twitter to die as much as anyone. I’m on bluesky. But me cutting off my nose to spite my face with twitter isn’t going to make it die any faster.

I don’t want to be a scold about it, but Bluesky has become a much more effective news aggregator than Twitter.

Well tbf Mussolini was a soldier too. 
They just have to invent new libs to be owned.
No one was afraid of Nazis on Truth Social or whatever that other conservative Twitter knockoff was. We should turn X into that.

At this point maybe that’s the best we can do. Stancil thinks it would have been better not to cede ground. When the Nazis come to bluesky we’ll get to make that choice again.
