Nobody is on twitter because of me. I read twitter only on my laptop with adblock. My posting shit here has zero impact on twitter’s survival.
Sure if I had 10k followers and tweeted all the time. But lurkers don’t keep twitter running.

The twitter bans on the Reddit sports subs could make a big difference as they seem to convince journalists and teams to at least also have Bluesky accounts. Bluesky just needs to be more attractive for advertisers and infuencers and if it ever gets there then twitter becomes another truth social that nobody cares about. They are a long way from achieving that though.

we gave control of the discourse to twitter before who acted mostly reasonably responsibly til musk took it over (compared to now anyway). what makes anyone think this will be different? it’s also headed by the same guy. I like their self hosting protocols. I’ve hosted tons of mastadon and bluesky instances at this point, but what is the point? for some other oligarch to regain control? stop playing the part for the man and retain control of your own god damn shit without relying on these oligarchs to do the right thing. They will NEVER pick you, if you’re not of a certain pedigree. and if you have to ask if you are, you are not.

I actually don’t think it matters whether the left stays or goes on twitter as long as the Democratic party is a giant turd sandwich.
Leftist ideas have failed to take root because people don’t like losing and there is no path forward for them in the US as currently constructed. It doesn’t matter if they were posted on twitter or not.

if it show up in my feeds and discourse whether I like it or not - absolutely i fucking care. I also care about the effect this kind of discourse has on my black family. They are rightfully terrified. a lot of people i know outside my family that got victimized last admin are rightfully terrified. I dont personally think anyone saying to “calm down” or “conform” on this shit is talking in good faith anymore.
I am not condemning anyone here but i’m not sure a single person mentioned the symbolism of the salute on mlk day, and thats just because like, mostly people here are white, but i swear on my father’s ashes, this shit was devastating. deplatforming yourself on nazi controlled platforms is not a solution to anything other than absolving your own guilt, in my honest opinion.

A number of us here have close friends and relatives that are trans. Just because theyre white doesnt mean they arent just as terrified. Pretty sure the Nazis were no great fans of theirs either, and, oh yeah, the reds ran on a platform specifically devoted to denying their right to exist.
