Elden Ring Friendship Circle

Yeah beating knights is all about circling around and trying to hit them from the back.

I entered the academy last night. I gotta say those mages are impossible if you aggro more than 2 at a time.

The thing about Margit is that he should be easy because all his moves are badly telegraphed but there’s enough delay that it messes with your timing. It’s like trying to hit a changeup.

Anyone else get messed up by the moongrum carian knight in the academy?

yeah those “npc invader” guys suck. That guy in particular will parry everything as you probably saw. I think I got lucky and got him in like 3 with jump attacks and guard counters. At least he’s gone when he’s dead.

Found my first poison swamp today thanks from!

Rennala is kicking my ass! I need to shed some armor to get quicker, but I don’t have any. Any one find a decent light set with high magic resist?

Good to see he is keeping busy. It isnt as though there is anything else he should be working on

I should wait until I get a Series X, right?

It’s smooth on my pretty well equipped PC (RTX 2060, 32 GB RAM, Ryzen 5 5600X, M.2 SSD), and I can use my XB1S controller via bluetooth. Not sure what you’re posting from, but that’s one alternative.

You’re fat rolling? Unfatroll immediately, worst thing you can do in these games. She took me a bit, maybe 20, her phase 2 (of 2) is a bitch, don’t have any real notes other than jellyfish not great here and yeah get lucky and have her not summon a dragon in 2.2. I’m faith-ish so magic resist talisman + magic resist incantation got me to ~60% but she still blew my shit up a ton. I got to be an expert at running by trash and then rolling on the 2nd part of the bridge to avoid trash’s magic bolt though!

There do seem to be other ways to get them, but that does seem to be the easiest. I am pretty comfortable with consulting the utoobz on this game, especially after never having played a Dark Souls game.

Yeah this series does a lot right but also a total shit ton wrong, and wrong for 13+ years.

Most obvious example: players will never, ever, equip a shield without 100% block (i.e. without it you take some damage on L1 block, which happens hundreds of times per hour with builds that use shields which is… 90% of them?). But yet they have continued to pump out game after game with 65% shields with unique art that some guy/gal had to make which no one will use, regardless of their other stats, which are never great anyways. Weird stuff.

Elden so far is an experiment to find all the ways I can get fucking killed

Its not equipment its levels, equipment (non weapons) in these games are more or less useless. I was using parts of the starter gear 20+ hours in. Again to me the most important thing I did was asap level vigor to 30. This post explains stat leveling.

Making the game mechanics deliberately obscure is a core part of the From Software experience.

Gee why on earth do I not like these games?

From games are a little like software engineering, its about half playing the game and half figuring out what to google to get you to a guide that tells you how to play the game. Except you don’t get paid to do it, you pay for the game. Wait.

Question, if I’m having trouble getting to slim-rolling as an astrologer, is it worth it iyo to increase my carrying capacity to the point I can slim roll with my preferred equipment? Or should I just shed equipment and deal with it?

I’ve never played slim roll just medium roll, not sure its worth it for non experts. But def don’t fat roll. Change your stuff out until you’re at medium load for sure. I wound up putting a few points in endurance and don’t regret it. Also you’ll eventually find a +carry capacity talisman that I think is hugely mandatory to use at all times.
