Looks like a cool site but not quite the wheel I’m working toward. Thanks for the pointer though.

This guys’s DNB set popped up in my feed and have had it running for a bit… I like his attitude and demeanor–the bike tour of London thing is fun too. Just a bit too much patter for me to really get into but I hope he keeps doing it!

I recommended this to my local library and they got it for me! I’ve checked it out and am reading it on my Kindle. It looks to be pretty long but so far so good.

Yeah that guy certainly doesn’t lack for equipment. The dog was a nice touch in the Weeknd deconstructed video.

The visuals in the “official video” for the song are pretty wild.

Nice. The visuals in the Cerulean vid perfectly complement the music and instruments imo.

@zikzak, did you see that there’s a live at KEXP set on YouTube? The main instruments are synths that look like suitcases full of wires and knobs, hooked up to sequencers and a mixer (they explain it in the video).

Made me think of that live Tangerine Dream show you posted way upthread.

@6ix, @Lawnmower_Man, they talk a little about their thinking around the writing of the music, and how their ability to play it live informed what they ended up doing. Kind of touching on some of your conversation above.

P.S. Just noticed that they’re using Sennheiser HD 280 Pros… I’ve got a pair of them on my shelf–I guess that’s a sign I picked a good pair!

I saw that but am more interested in the full live performance of Murmurations with the Deep Throat Choir (that’s the women singing on the album who seem pretty great on their own as well and should get more prominent credit imo). I’m about to give this whole thing a listen.

Stumbled across this when I went looking to see who the choreographer was for that Simian Mobile Disco video sumey posted earlier (it’s Kiani del Valle). Probably not going to appeal to anybody else, but music, cinematography and dance all working really well here for me.

I thought this was a real sleeper until around 5:00 but it gets spicier from that point forward. The tones they are getting are quality. Having such a portable setup is smart because, as they point out, they can basically just pick up and go play gigs anywhere on a moment’s notice. Pretty important if you have any plan to make real paper dollars from music.

It’s a standard monitoring headphone.

I’m fond of a good video

For anyone who wants to hear and feel a great encapsulation of the early 90s rave scene this is a great homage done with a modern mind.

Zomby “Where Were You In 92”?

Suddenly I’m coming up in a sweaty warehouse and hoping the cops don’t show.

The Streets first album blew my mind when it came out. Had a chance to catch him live in Israel as well. His second album is great as well (a grand doesn’t come for free).

I’m not watching the video but Skrillex sound is so different than original dubstep that it’s worth pointing out to people who may not know.

Not a fan though I’m open minded and maybe a skrillex track dropped at just the right moment…

His Jack U stuff with diplo is way more palatable.

Skrillex is legitimately talented, especially as a composer / producer, even though I don’t find his signature industrial-FM-bass-on-steroids sound that appealing. It’s not really surprising to me though because he was in bands and making music for a long time. The guy who surprises me is Diplo who had basically no musical background and got there from grinding and grinding.

Yeah I get it just way too saturated for my taste.

Gas lamp Killer used to dj sets manipulating energy in similar ways and I loved those.

Diplo’s 1st album, before he was making more high energy club anthems, is a downtempo classic.

It’s like a down south version of “Endtroducing” with occasional lyricism. It’s elite.

He’s always had a massive vinyl collection and those peeps were always gonna be wizards at some point.

I still love this track. It’s so raw and filthy.
