This is kind of what I’m getting at. His instincts are to bully and bomb or whatever but he literally lacks the attention span to actually do it. By the time he’s halfway thru the process of bombing something he’s distracted by something someone said on Twitter.
He managed to find it within himself to bomb Soleimani.
Yeah, I remember. It has probably crossed his facsimile of a mind several other times to take military action and he just kind of forgot about it like a Game of Thrones season 8 character.
Dunno really how the long tail is any better with Trump. As far as nuclear war goes, hell, half this god damned forum handwaived Space Force as nbd. And Trump is going to cause nuclear war because of his terrible relationship with Russia?
As far as the disaster Trump is pushing us towards (Climate), Mitch is absolutely 100% bad on.
And as mentioned, Mitch is 100% bad on democracy. He’s mindblowingly bad. An order of magnitude worse than anyone else in American leadership in my lifetime, including Nixon. That thing where he decided a President doesn’t get a SCOTUS seat? And he got away with it? Jesus. If Biden wins and McConnell stays, Biden won’t get a nomination at all. The Senate now appoints SCOTUS members, that is until Dems get the Senate and Rs have the Presidency.
I agree with overall, but I suspect the way things like this actually play out is that Moscow Mitch makes a deal to give Biden something if Biden appoints a conservative judge, but then Mitch doesn’t give Biden the thing. With people like Biden the Republicans can get whatever they want by faking bipartisanship.
Tara’s story is obviously worth investigating but this isn’t going to derail Biden, absent major new information.
Could be worse because it’s probably going to be another right-wing populist. Maybe Cruz with a new and improved Trump Populism subroutine installed, maybe Rubio, maybe someone like Hawley or Cotton. Obviously could be someone else as well but I’ll bet they’ll take the Trumps populism to heart bigly. They’ll be possibly worse or possibly better for the same reason: all those guys are smart and capable.
What will happen? Quit asking what potential candidates might want or what plays politically. Ask what their donors want.
Obviously donor opinion, voter opinion, and what the politician actually thinks plays into what politicians do in office. Thinking it’s all just whatever donors want is laughably simplistic.
Not obvious.
Personally, if I were a mega-rich donor, I would simply ensure I donated money to politicians who think what I prefer my candidates to think.
I mean, there’s obviously not an infinite range of candidates. But there’s a whole system of vetters who very strongly influence who even gets to be a candidate, and they know who the donors are and what they like. The individual candidate may vary by necessity, but it’s naive to suppose it’s comparable as a factor to donor preference.
Sure but the control of donors isn’t all powerful and voters aren’t powerless. Donald Trump is a good example of that. Zero donors wanted him to win the Republican primary, but it didn’t matter because voters came out and voted for him. Zero donors wanted Bernie to beat Hilldawg and he came uncomfortably close to doing so.
Trump didn’t really need donors, partly due to his wealth but largely due to earned media, and Sanders bypassed ‘donors’ in the sense we’re discussing. I’m not denying what you’re saying, I just think you’re overstating the case. AOC is a better example for your case, I think — and that happened because the eDems were asleep at the switch, basically. And she still needed to be an extremely rare talent.
To be clear, I’m not saying that donors aren’t very powerful and influential. Just that they’re not all-powerful.
Sure, but I mean ‘not all-powerful’ is a pretty low bar.
Right but it isn’t static. The more that politicians ignore the actual problems of voters and focus on the problems of donors, which often are mutually exclusive, the angrier voters get. And angry voters who feel like their problems are being ignored vote for Donald Trump – all of the sudden not only are the donors not all-powerful, they’re powerless. Populism is a reaction to voters being ignored, and voters being ignored has been increasingly happening in USA#1 for decades.
The guy who somehow thought 6ix was alluding to a media conspiracy needs to shut the entirety of his fucking mouth about what he thinks 6ix thinks.
And it goes without saying but I definitely can’t vote Joe now what with all this toxicity.
I know right?
Sorry Joe you need to get your online supporters in line, try again in four years and tell them to be nice to me.
lol your motives were entirely pure, I’m sure.
