I honestly get it. I’ve posted on this very form that the only reason I make the support Biden argument is because Trump is the candidate. That’s is. No other reason needed. To me, it is wholly and completely irrelevant who his opponent is.
I have also stated on this forum that the rape allegation against Biden has caused me more cognitive dissonance than anything I can remember in my life. Everything in my being and history would normally make me the loudest voice against him in 99.9999999999999% of scenarios.
But then we are back to my first point. Trump is that special. That evil. That destructive to the entire world. He is unique. A once in a lifetime threat.
So here I am begging people to support Biden, who is almost certainly a rapist, when in my world sexual consent issues are the lowest form of criminality.
If I could make the world as I want, Biden would win the election, be sworn in, and the next day drop dead of a massive coronary.
The only part of this post I disagree with is the ‘once in a lifetime’ part. Honestly speaking as a millennial I’ve seen too many ‘one time’ things go wrong in my life to believe that kind of thing. The next GOP candidate might be worse somehow.
The next GOP candidate will almost certainly be worse because they have been given a clear indication that they are free to break all the “rules” because the rules are actually just unenforced norms. Never forget that as terrible and destructive as Trump is, he’s also extraordinarily stupid and incompetent.
Exactly this. There’s no shortage of highly effective sociopaths out there that could take advantage of Trump’s dismantling of political processes. Trump has people arguing that the President has unlimited powers … so that he can get revenge on people that don’t suck up to him enough.
Trump isn’t even that right wing. Of course the next candidate will be more right wing.
That part is not at all why trump is the worst candidate in my lifetime.
I would honestly snap vote for McConnell over Trump.
What makes trump so dangerous to the world is his narcissism, stupidity and incompetence. This is the single most dangerous mixture of traits for a US president. Above all else.
It’s playing out in real time right now with covid. People are dying because of it.
The literal end of the world is on the table with trump in a way it’s just not with any other candidate.
I don’t think this is inconsistent from what I’m saying. Trump’s narcissism led him to proclaiming his unchecked power. It’s much more consequential that the rest of the Republicans are going along with that than the actual fact of his narcissism is consequential.
This is bad. McConnell could not be more authoritarian and more of a threat to democracy. He completely invented not letting the POTUS get a SCOTUS seat. He unilaterally decides everything that gets voted on in the Senate. He just fools you because he has better manners.
Yeah, Trump himself has been more doveish than anyone really foresaw, FP-wise. Or maybe ‘less hawkish’ is more apt. I think President McConnell would be balls-deep in Iran already.
You are still confusing my concern with potential ideological shifts and my concern for the literal end of the world, or some huge part of it, due to some ill conceived nuclear war or poorly organized response to the next pandemic with an R0 of 15.
You are worried about the fat part of the bell curve. That part is a given. I am worried about the long tail.
There’s a big non-trump faction of the GOP that’s deliberately trying to bring about the end times by orchestrating some war from revelations, but ignore that, it’s trump potentially stepping on rakes that’s dangerous.
