Democratic Primaries 2020 - With a whimper

Thereā€™s no ā€œmeh, letā€™s talk about down ballot races nowā€ option

Same for me as a dumb fuck college student only it was the Gulf War that was bullshit at that time.

Itā€™s irresponsible to endorse a rapist. Time to take you out back old man.

I donā€™t know about that. When the choices are a rapist vs an even rapey-er rapist, going for the lesser rapist is arguably the responsible thing to do.

One could always vote third party (non-rapist)

You could, but by not voting for lesser rapist, youā€™re helping greater rapist more than you would be than if you vote for the lesser rapist.

I feel like Biden might be a tip of the iceberg rapist at this point. Trump is a fairly fully vetted rapist

True, but Iā€™d be shocked if Bidenā€™s ultimate iceberg ends up bigger than Trumps known iceberg. Biden has run for president a bunch of times and has been a major political figure for decades. The chance of him hiding a Trump-sized iceberg after all of those years is small. Unless, of course he decided to really ramp up the raping post 2016.

Biden has been basically publicly invisible since MeToo. When he was running, the public didnā€™t care about rape. Iā€™m expecting an unreal oppo dump over the next 6 months.

The argument for America 2020 is seriously to vote for the lesser of two sex offenders? No. Fuck off. Not voting.

Sitting this election out is unconscionable. Get your shit together and vote for Biden. This is not fucking complicated.

Trumpā€™s getting 10s of thousands of people killed from the virus. Biden will have competent people around him.

Even before that it was not complicated. Biden sucks, so sit it out and let Trump win? Cool, go tell AOC she has no shot at running in a remotely free and fair election for president. This election is to save what is left of our democracy, so maybe, just maybe she has a shot. Itā€™s to save lives and prevent injustice, now with a pandemic sprinkled on top.

Anybody left of center who canā€™t manage to pull the lever for Biden is either a selfish asshole of the highest magnitude or a massive idiot, or both.

Get a hold of yourselves, people.

I am very likely not voting this year. The real question is whether or not I actively encourage others to also not vote.

Sorry, not sorry. Iā€™ve heard these arguments for years and I reject them. Iā€™m not playing this fucking game any more.

Feels like weā€™ve been over this many times, but if you live in states which donā€™t matter, which is most of them, then not voting seems fine. Vote downballot and leave President blank, since that is an unusual thing to do itā€™s the most effective way to send a message to the Democratic party about your displeasure.

I disagree. Running up the score is important IMO.

I donā€™t care where anyone lives. We need to run up the score. He needs to lose the popular vote by 20M in case he pulls it out 270-268 by 1,000 votes in three states or some shit.

Thereā€™s a number where the public doesnā€™t accept the electoral college result and thereā€™s unrest, I donā€™t know what it is but we should hit it.

We also need to send a message to people that this is not remotely ok. Whatā€™s it tell the people in cages, their families, etc when we sit out? The nurses with no PPE? The EMT with no healthcare? And on and on and on.

Run it up, leave no doubt.

Voting for Alex Morse in the primary and putting Richard Neal out to pasture is the most likely reason I still might actually vote this year. As for the rest, seinfeld.gif.

I say that somebody who has literally walked hundreds of miles to support the Democrats as a full time canvasser.

The voters didnā€™t go for someone who didnā€™t suck so bad. He lost. Thereā€™s a scenario where people riot and donā€™t accept the EC result and/or there is immense pressure to stop using it, I donā€™t know what the margin needs to be, but if we want that equity baked in, we need the zikzaks of the world to suck it up and vote for the lesser of two evils.

Pretty sure Iā€™m going to disappoint you this year.

Not voting at all is so much worse than voting 3rd party, wherever you live. If you donā€™t vote at all then there is no protest.

Do you think the Democratic establishment gives a flying fuck if you sit out in California or Massachusetts? Do you think they have some guy in a room somewhere tallying presidential undervotes in blue states?

Yeah the party orchestrated a Biden win, but the will of the voters was for a moderate. The establishment clusterfuck was to not coalesce sooner around a better candidate than Biden. We could be running a less shitty moderate like Booker or Harris or Beto, who all suck in their own ways but not like Biden.

My theory of change is to keep voting for the best candidate in primaries up and down the ballot, but still vote for the best candidate who can win in the general. We have a shot at a President AOC in the next decade if we still have free enough and fair enough elections.

Saying fuck the DNC and sitting out is not helping AOC. You really want to get them? Fucking support downballot primary challenges to establishment candidates. Start filling up city councils with Justice Dems, then in 2-6 years they are winning more important offices and in 4-8 years maybe we have 40 of them in the House and they can make eDemsā€™ lives a living hell. Donate to AOC and her supported candidates for the same reason. Donate to primary challengers like Cisneros, then when she loses make sure you remember to throw her some money next time, too. If one runs in your area go knock doors or volunteer however you can.

Withholding your votes from Biden accomplishes nothing productive.
