We’ve literally got a Weekend-at-Bernie’s-esque stuffed-suit vying opposite the Mango Menace for highest office in the land, while the entire globe is mobilized against a virus.
status quo sounds like heaven right about now
God, every last one of us in this forum will find another hobby if you see us through this storm. Amen.
Think I’ll be writing a letter soon to the DNC to explain I am changing my party affiliation back to IND and explaining that I’m unlikely to vote for them in Nov.
So if Trump and CO get ther 1k a month bill actually passed and people actually get that money they’re going to run to the left of Joe on economic matters and it’s gonna be 40 state sweep.
Then after they are going to fuck us and we will never have free and fair elections. I’m sure they plan on making it up to the rich after 2020 and things will get absolutely horrible for people.
They will certainly run to the left of Joe on SS and Medicare. Trump will say that he has increased SS and Medicare coverage and eliminated restrictions for preexisting conditions and that health care costs are going down and that Jared has solved the opioid crisis. Does it matter that it’s all lies? Of course not. Meanwhile Biden and the eDems will try to explain that while, yes, actually Joe did in fact support cutting SS there is a whole bunch of context you see and that the deficit is a serious matter and go to my website … . You can see where that goes - Biden’s supposed advantage with racist blue collar types evaporates when they convince themselves that Trump will give them the racism and the social safety net.
I’m still baffled that the DNC literally sent people to their grave yesterday to vote for a guy who doesn’t know what he’s saying half the time. Fuck this party
The recent episode on organizing where he interviews Jane McAlevey is good (And interesting time me) and I think exemplifies some of Klein’s leftish views. People on here might not like it because they criticize the Bernie campaign.
Episode 84 where they discuss how we change our minds is older (from 2017) and may be boring to a lot of people, but I think it illustrates a characteristic of Klein’s style and his podcast that attracts me. He is intellectually curious and imo is genuinely working on his own self growth and taking his audience along for the ride.
I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but I really liked his interview with Tom Steyer. I think it illustrates how Klein comes prepared to interviews and is willing to understand the positions and policies of the people he interviews and push back on them where he see weakness, or where other people see weakness.
To shed more light on my personal bias, I really started listening to Klein when I was struggling to come to grips and get over my depression. I’d just gotten into mindfulness meditation and found it effective in helping me manage my suicidal ideations. Coincidentally, he happened to have a series of episodes that dealt with the benefits of meditation and the harmful effects of social media, which I was also really starting to understand and grapple with. The topics really spoke to me, and I found that he would ask questions that I found myself wondering and he would ask smart, insightful questions that I felt teased out important ideas (to me) in a way that I found satisfying. So I think because I really like him and his style, I’m pretty defensive when I hear people criticize him, especially in ways that misrepresent his motives.
