Democratic Primaries 2020 - Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Sanders/Render 2020 is a dominant ticket.

It’s not even an official ad. It was just made by a rando. That’s something that having rabid, overenthusiastic fans does for you.

Didn’t people cry about Einbert using the Soviet flag for an avatar?

Yes, something about how it was equivalent to having a Nazi flag avatar.

That’s a legitimately good ad. Better than any HRC ad from the 2016 cycle that I saw.

This is why you let the professional messaging people (I’m talking advertising and entertainment people NOT politics people) make your ads.

I know that’s supporter created, but Killer Mike is the face of that ad, and he’s an entertainer. Entertainers and ad people are light years ahead of campaign people on communications in 2020.

Literally any major youtuber is better at making popular videos that create an emotional reaction than anyone who works on political campaigns for a living in 2020. They are absolutely great at getting the algorithms to give them money and the algorithms do the one thing they are designed to do well, and that’s get people to engage with the content.

Hilldawg’s girls looking in mirror ad was maybe the best political advertisement I’ve ever seen.

Disagree. That ad accuses Trump of being a meanie face and saying shitty things about women. A good attack ad accuses your opponent of something awful.

Examples of good attack ads:

All three of these are massively massively better than that mirrors ad.

Notice that all three are pretty gross distortions of reality. That doesn’t matter in attack ads. A good anti Trump attack ad would have called him a fucking rapist or at the very least a poor person lol (hilariously Trump sets up traditional max damage attack ads without even lying).

Not saying that being shitty to women isn’t bad, I’m saying it’s not the same as betraying your country, starting a nuclear war, or giving weekend passes to a subhuman (very much the implied messaging of the third ad) murderer who stabbed a man to death and raped his girlfriend.

I didn’t debate at any level, but I’ve talked to a good number of debaters who have all told me that the goal is to make it seem like the side the other guy is for would lead to nuclear war. A good attack ad is supposed to be that hyperbolic and sell it.

The mirrors ad is actually representative of everything wrong with HRC’s campaign. Obviously more interested in winning the right way than maximizing the chances of victory. It’s the kind of ad you could be proud of. That’s not even supposed to be part of the conversation when discussing the making of an attack ad.

Some examples of other bad HRC ads:

This one you change the music and it could be the intro for a wrestling heel. What an undecided independent takes away from this is that this is the ABSOLUTE best that HRC’s campaign can do, some bad language. Super shitty ad.

Jesus I hope they didn’t run this in Ohio. What a hilariously awful ad. WTF level trash.

This is a bit better. It still doesn’t verbally call him a rapist and the music is still… uninspiring and scoldy?

Good god that was a bad campaign. It made Kerry look good and he was BAD at running for president.

Final DMR poll coming out tomorrow at 9pm EST. Supposedly to be aired on CNN.

Damnit now I’m fighting back tears at work. Fuck that is a good ad.

Reading the comments I was prepared to be underwhelmed by the ad because of all the hype.

Nope, that is great.

I’d forgotten all about Biden taking $200K to endorse Republicans in the 2018 midterms.

Bloom likely will qualify for this debate. Klob/Pete’s path is to get a delegate in Iowa.

DNC again sure rigging this… for bernie because bloom only helps him?

Steyer depends on dates of polls allowed. Weigel jumped the shark here.

edit–the previous steyer 12% polls do not count.

Why are you doing this?

You look like a complete idiot right now. It’s still ok to just go back to posting normally.

I’m looking at the rules for the California primary and found this:

Election day voting will take place throughout the state from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. In the semi-closed primary, candidates must meet a threshold of 15 percent at the congressional district or statewide level in order to be considered viable. The 416 pledged delegates to the 2020 Democratic National Conventionwill be allocated proportionally on the basis of the results of the primary. Of the 416 pledged delegates, between 4 and 7 are allocated to each of the state’s 53 congressional districtsand another 54 are allocated to party leaders and elected officials (PLEO delegates), in addition to 90 at-large pledged delegates. Bonus delegates will be allocated as California shares a primary date with numerous other states on Super Tuesday; these numbers do not yet account for these delegates.[4]

So, it sounds like only about 2/3 of the total delegates from CA are contingent on the actual votes. Even if Bernie wins 2/3 of those delegates, he probably won’t come away with the majority of CA delegates.

I know it’s early to start griping about the rigging and all but…

Ok so how long are we going to let Vic troll up the forum?

The narrative that the process wasn’t fair to all the people that nobody actually was voting for is a bit tilting. Harris dropped out on her own though she wouldn’t have made this round of debates I think. Castro wasn’t getting shit in the polls. Booker made quite a few and didn’t increase his support from them. Yang isn’t getting a delegate in either of the first two states, one of which allows his entire base to vote and not even have to register as a dem to do it. At some point it’s like ffs. Minority voters make up half the voting block and most of them support a white dude this election-- that’s not the DNC’s fault.

Btw, I’m pretty sure bloomberg was allowed in the debates not because of the DNC but as a request of warren and maybe a few others running because he hasn’t been attacked from not being on the debate stage.

This would definitely be a bernie thing to do–request this then call it rigged he got in but I can’t prove that so moving on.

despite all of this, there’s still more serious candidates running in this primary than I can remember, probably in my entire lifetime
