Steyer with an absolute HEATER of an add here in Iowa. Straight up calls Trump a fake billionaire. I’ll see if I can find it.
Edit: here it is, guess it’s two weeks old. Pretty good
This is just straight up insane. The Biden campaign is just boldly lying about his record over and over again and the AP, rather than point this out, decides to write a plainly misleading story/headline implying that Sanders is the one being dishonest.
What an absolutely sick fucking country we have.

Sanders not being competitive with the Olds does have me worried.
It does seem with Bloomberg polling so high that Sanders needs to buy a lot more TV time to reach them.
I remain a non-believer that actual KLOB voters exist. Find me one.
One of my brothers is one. Keeps trying to pitch me on her annoyingly too.
Cliffs?
She’s likely to do well in the midwest possibly even putting Ohio in play. She’s a reasonable human being. Her cruelty is proof that she’s a try hard.
Most of his arguments rotate around Democratic voters not actually being all that liberal and her being extremely electable. He’s a certifiable math genius who works for an insurance company so his arguments lean heavily on how well she’s historically done in red leaning districts in Minnesota strongly suggesting that she can win Ohio pretty easily… and that there is no path to the WH for Trump without Ohio.
Who is his 2nd choice?
Warren. Then Biden. Never in a million years backing Bernie. Might not vote if Bernie gets the nod and he lives in Ohio.
These rankings and this logic blow massive holes in those reasons you just listed.
JFC.
What are his top 2 or 3 issues?
So the most important thing to note is that he believes the following things:
-
Nobody is getting a platform as liberal as Biden’s passed. And if you looked at Biden’s platform historically it would be the most liberal platform the Democrats ever ran on in the general election.
-
The biggest threat to the country right now is the breakdown of Democracy, and he sees any moves away from supporting Democracy by the Democrats as wildly unacceptable. He’s the ultimate if they go low we go high voter in other words. He’s very worried about Bernie because of Bernie’s historical support of left wing authoritarians. He thinks, probably correctly, that if Bernie was put to a choice between advancing socialism and protecting Democratic norms he’d choose socialism in most spots. He sees the GOP as a lost cause and rejects the idea that fighting fire with fire is acceptable in any way shape or form. He thinks that if both parties go that way (as opposed to just one) it’s pretty much the end of liberalism in the US as a governing philosophy.
He likes Klob for the general as a candidate and he likes Warren as a person (and thinks she’s drawing live to doing some needed reforms in places like private equity and banking)… he’d probably be fine with Pete but thinks he’s not electable because of black turnout so probably prefers Biden.
He’s an odd one for sure lol. I think he’s more scared of what a Bernie VS Trump general election means for the state of Democracy in the US (he sees it as a matchup between authoritarian left and authoritarian right) than he is worried about Bernie Sanders the person.
For a math genius, he sure is dogshit at real life game theory.
My FIL is also a Klob supporter. He is from the Midwest so I think he relates to her and feels like she could carry all the midwest states that are needed to beat Trump.
We had a conversation about the primary last Sunday and he thinks Bernie is too far to the left and that he will not be successful on implementing his policies. He also thinks the independents will be scared to vote for Bernie. We discussed the relative importance of energizing the base vs. winning independents, and he saw the argument for Bernie in that case.
I didn’t ask him who his 2nd/3rd choice candidates were, but he told me he does not like Biden, so at least that’s good.
Regardless of his current preference, he said he will definitely vote D in the election, and both my in laws are planning to canvass and drive people to the polls as they’ve done in several elections in the past. I’m lucky to have good olds as in laws.
I think there’s a broad swath of voters who barely have the slightest inkling of what left or right is. They’re not dumb. A lot of people pay no attention to this. Like, I didn’t know who was in the superbowl until a couple days ago. Hell, maybe the playoffs ended a couple days ago and no one knew. I have paid no intentional attention to it at all. I’m sure that’s a bigger lol to a lot of people than not knowing who is running for potus or what direction they lean or even what directions are possible.
Eh. I see his point there. If both parties accept that kind of behavior it becomes the new meta… and it probably doesn’t get better from there.
He’s got a bit of a fatalistic streak for sure. Definitely doesn’t think things are going to get better anytime soon. His expectation about global warming is that we’ll get to +5 degrees C and stabilize there over the next hundred years.
And are you really surprised that a hardcore math guy is bad at taking that into the real world? He was awful at poker lol.
For most people (including myself), the left / right thing is a generalization of policies by the existing parties or candidates. Whether that’s correct from the actual definition of what’s left or right is irrelevant really, it’s more of a way of putting policies in a straight line and decide where in that line you are most comfortable sitting.
By the way, one thing I forgot to mention is that my FIL is not against things like Medicare for all, for example, he just thinks that an incremental approach is better/more likely to happen, so he likes candidates who take that approach.
I’m not mr science guy or anything but is +5C like an extinction level event? At 5C we just become venus no?
We’d be pretty thoroughly fucked but Venus is 462° C so not quite there yet.
No… but it sure af isn’t pretty.
