Democratic Primaries 2020 - Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

As long as a brokered convention is possible, none of them should.

seems fine, absolutely no way this will go wrong!

Well, he might’ve been tilted the way I was or the way many twitterers were from that particular strain of weaponized derp, because you’re right that it wasn’t phrased with maximum clarity.

But yeah, Cody is one of the good guys and an absolute pure-hate-filled assassin. And quite funny.

That “Russian-Linked Oligarch” is an American citizen who came here from Russia at 21 in 1978, attended two US universities, started a company and built his fortune here. As far as I know he doesn’t have direct links to typical ways Russian oligarchs make money, but maybe?

He’s also donated to Obama, Romney, McCain, HRC, Rubio, Schumer, Cuomo, etc. He’s given several million to McConnell’s Super PAC.

He gave Pete $2,400.

The story here is that Pete is the favorite Dem nominee of billionaires who like to make sure to donate to both sides so they have some access or whatever.

But, sure, that headline is way scarier and more ominous.

Blavatnik made his main wealth in highly controversial deals with the direct support of kleptocratic regimes of Nursultan Nazarbayev and Vladimir Putin. There is an overwhelming evidence that Blavatnik is in many ways connected to corrupt Russian security services and law enforcement and has personally benefited from their unlawful actions. The best illustration is how he got about $7bn in 2013 in a deal personally orchestrated by Putin and Igor Sechin, of which $3bn was an inexplicable and highly criticized overpayment on the part of the Russian state. It was so bad and rotten that even Putin tried to later distance himself and criticized this deal, even though he had personally micro-managed it.

Blavatnik’s media business is mentioned in Panama Papers and he is a partner with a former Russian Deputy Minister of the Interior Alexander Makhonov who had to step down amid corruption allegations. Blavatnik is a major partner of the two sanctioned oligarchs: Viktor Vekselberg and Oleg Deripaska, both of whom are seen as corrupt and directly connected to Putin’s regime by US Treasury. Blavatnik has multiple other highly controversial connections with the Russian government, security services and organized crime, both abroad and inside Russia.

Ok, fine, but again like what’s the insinuation here? Pete should give back the $2,400 but it’s not like there’s any there there. Bad guy who plays both sides donates $2,400 to Pete. Ok cool. Was Obama in bed with Russia? Romney? McCain?

So like what’s the deal with this headline? It’s clearly misleading.

He’s a Russian oligarch who donated a million dollars to tRUmp’s inauguration who is also contributing to GOPete. Seems like a red flag to me.

He donated a million to Trump’s inauguration, 3.5M to McConnell’s Super PAC, and $2400 to Pete.

He donated to Obama, HRC, Andrew Cuomo, Schumer, Rubio, Romney, McCain. Red flag for all of em?

The red flag is that billionaires really seem to think Pete will be good for them. That’s it. This attempt to link Pete to Putin, Russia, shady oligarchs, etc is ridiculous.

I mean hey, if you want to speculate that every major party presidential nominee in the last three elections was in bed with Russia/oligarchs, it’s still a free country and you can do that… But I think it’s pretty ridiculous.

Just not in the way you’re talking about.

The Russia angle is just whatever and a lot of it the jaw about it will evaporate with the next Dem presidency, as will concern over procedure, precedent, decorum etc. If people would realise that it doesn’t matter which landmass the oligarchs originated from, least of all to the oligarchs themselves, we might begin to get somewhere.

It’s still a free country for the time being. If you want to vote for someone who solicits money from billionaires and oligarchs, knock yourself out but don’t be surprised when it’s not such a free country anymore.
