Yeah, I agree with all of this. Qanon is primarily a strategy for regulating cognitive dissonance re: Trump while also morally high-grounding any opposition.
Child trafficking is absolutely real and I’ve worked with a number of victims so the issue has some added meaning for me. Using the cause as a tool for self-congratulation and to point fingers at Trump’s enemies is just awful.
I dont have family but i do have friends with bad political views. Some id even say are racist if we count work friends. Ill never stop banging my head on that wall. Ive seen people change.
Now with that said i would not fault someone for cutting people off.
I don’t agree with the mindset but it’s also none of my business so whatever. If one of my family members cut out one of the family because of political views I’d try to change their mind though.
Digging through some old emails and came across one my dad forwarded to me in 09.
SOCIAL SECURITY CHANGES
It does not matter if you personally like or dislike Obama. You need to sign this petition and flood his e-mail box with e-mails that tell him that, even if the House passes this bill, he needs to veto it. It is already impossible to live on Social Security alone. If the government gives benefits to ‘illegal’ aliens who have never contributed, where does that leave those of us who have paid into Social Security all our working lives?
As stated below, the Senate voted this week to allow ‘illegal’ aliens access to Social Security benefits.
Attached is an opportunity to sign a petition that requires citizenship for eligibility to that social service.
Instructions are below. If you don’t forward the petition and just stop it, we will lose all these names.
If you do not want to sign it, please just forward it to everyone you know.
I think somehow it’s actually a requirement that the child trafficking thing (meaning pizza gate or whatever - and not child trafficking generally) be untrue. Whatever is going on psychologically with these Q people I don’t think it gets satisfied if the thing is true. Like, if they actually found kids in the basement of the pizza place, Q would be forced to focus on something else.
Agree that it’s untruthfullness is helpful because it can forever be a shiny distracting object. The fervor over Q & pizzagate stuff resolves cognitive dissonance as an avenue to cosplay caring about kids while actual family separation and abuse is taking place.
It’s like if a ranchers were losing their herd to wolves, but decided to blame it on snypes and regale themselves with tales of epic snype hunting rather than address reality.
I called my grandma for the first time in months after seeing some weather issues where she lives.
Talk for awhile, then she drops something about Chicago and how awful it is that “they” were breaking windows yesterday. The rest of it is my fault, but I gave her no leeway. She started slobbering the police, I went off on the police. She told me 7x as many police are killed by gunfire than those killed by police. I told her the real numbers and that she should ask herself why it is that she is hearing such inaccurate numbers.
Anyways, it was pretty heated, and grandma doesn’t do heated. Grandma is a child. And I’m an idiot.
I had to buzz someone into my building to pick up an envelope I left outside my door, so I said, “Grandma, I know we don’t see eye to eye here, but I have someone coming to pick something up, I love you.”
She said, I kid you not, and it’s chef’s kiss perfect: “I love the police.”
Curious, I tried to find the source of this misinformation. Approximately 7 times as many police died in the line of duty in 2019 as police shot and killed unarmed Black people. We can all add up the problems with this. Police killed like 1000 people. “unarmed” has to mean police didn’t count anything as a weapon: knife, pen, stick, big phone, whatever. Only a quarter of the police killed were the result criminal acts - most were accidents. AND - this 7x thing is something that Laura Ingraham broadcast. That might be where it came from.
Respect for actually finding that, I had no idea. But it’s nice to know where the garbage comes from, even if I already knew it was Fox News in some regard.
Some people are just like that. It’s weird. My mom is like that. She’s a life long Democrat. She did some kind of protesty things around civil rights when she was young (though maybe my Dad was more the driving force there - dunno). Despises Trump. But, like she loves police and the military.
I once had someone try to push a conspiracy theory child rape political story at the poker table. I pretty much shut him down by telling him that the kid deserved it. I didn’t really leave him any room to have a pseudo-honest discussion.
Deplorables have an expectation for how the conversation is supposed to go. It short-circuits them if you give them a response that is nothing like what they expect to hear.
