The manager in this case being our batshit crazy federal judiciary who will say that you canā€™t do that because reasons and Democrats will throw their hands up and say thereā€™s nothing we can do while dipshits in Tennessee stop vaccinating their kids against measles.

Iā€™m supposed to be flying out to Calgary next Friday for a former university roommateā€™s wedding in Banff, they are both fully vaxxed and work in healthcare so are probably pretty careful and were far more careful than even us when they came back to Ontario about 4 months ago. Alberta is the covid hotspot of Canada by far currently with about 1500 cases per day in a province of 4.4 million, they also have the least restrictions. The wedding will have the ceremony outside and cocktail outside, but the main reception is inside, with outdoor space available. Inside you donā€™t have to wear masks while eating.

My wife and I are fully vaxxed, mid 30s, fairly healthy. We are going to be staying with my wifeā€™s sister and her fiancee who also live in Calgary for the week. Flying out on Friday, wedding is on Sunday flying back the next Saturday. They are thin, early 30s- she is single vaxxed and not looking for a second dose and he is unvaxxed. My wife thinks it is because they both had health issues when they were kids and have phobias of going in for more vaccines and needles as they both were in childrenā€™s hospitals getting injections a lot when quite young. The sister has juvenile arthritis and is on immunosuppressants as a result, but is probably not at higher risk than any other early 30s individual for covid as the immunosuppressants balance out the hyperactive immune system.

Issue is I want to meet my 76 year old double vaxxed father for lunch here on an outdoor patio tomorrow in Ontario where case counts arenā€™t terrible. He never got sick for anything ever my whole life (had polio twice as a kid just before the vaccine), his current wife- my step mother (unvaxxed) is in the hospital with an oxygen mask (not ventilator) with covid and went to the hospital last Thursday- 8 days ago. My father has had 0 symptoms of covid and my wife doesnā€™t want to meet him until after we comeback from Calgary as sheā€™s scared we could get something from him as he was a close contact of someone with covid and pass it onto her sister and her fiancee when we visit in a week. I think it will have been 9 days and heā€™s double vaxxed with 0 symptoms so it should be fine. Thoughts?

(Side note- unsure how I feel about my step mother being sick with covid as she literally broke up the family as she changed the locks on my sister and made it so that my sister and I canā€™t visit my Dadā€™s house anymore- he can visit me and I can go for lunch to a restaurant to see him. My sister moved to England probably because she felt she didnā€™t have family in Canada any more after our mum died 8 years ago. Sheā€™s also the most racist person Iā€™ve ever known with only one exception and is the worst human being Iā€™ve ever known with zero exceptions. That being said my dad is mostly incapable of feeding himself (only orders take out while sheā€™s gone) and she does take care of him, despite her being verbally abusive to him). My sister and I have a good relationship with our step sister (her daughter).

I would think the risk of an outdoor lunch between vaxxed people is quite low. And from what youā€™ve described (going to a wedding in a ā€œhotspotā€ and staying with unvaxxed folks), it seems more likely that youā€™d bring back COVID and potentially pass it on to your father in a post-wedding lunch, than the other way around.

Has dad been tested since being a close contact of his wife? Is he visiting her in the hospital?

If your main concern is your dad, can he get tested before you show up? And then when you return, the most responsible thing would be to stay home for 3-5 days and then get tested. I think itā€™s safest for everyone if you meet your dad first on condition of a negative test.

Heā€™s not allowed to visit her as covid patients cannot have visitors. He has not been tested and is double mRNA vaxxed with 0 symptoms thus far and I donā€™t think I ever remember him having a cough, fever or cold my whole life.

Was waiting for someone to put out this trash study. Itā€™s awful, but someone else is going to have to get into the details I got other shit to do today. Anyways:

Iā€™m wondering if there is any risk of him being an asymptomatic vaxxed carrier and passing that to us that we then pass on as asymptomatic vaxxed carriers. My wifeā€™s parents are freaking out about us bringing covid to their half vaxxed daughter when we stay with them because they think she is at extreme risk due to the arthritis she has, even though her own doctor out there said she wasnā€™t at a higher risk than others in her age bracket.

Feels like a situation where they will be unhappy regardless of the risk or reasonable precautions taken. Might just have to take the bullet and see Dad afterwards for the sake of family peace. Which sucks because itā€™s directly a result of SIL and husband not getting vaxxed.

Iā€™m more about the politics of COVID than the science of COVID and I think the numbers suggest that Democrats should use COVID to polarize the electorate.

Any study that uses raw data from VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System), without any form of external verification, is not proper science.

I am no doctor and no scientist but I know enough to know that if the above is true about this study, itā€™s irresponsible to report on it at all, let alone with the headlines Iā€™m seeing. What a fucking crock.

Why are news outlets still reporting on preprints? JFC

Noted bullshit from hoeg:

The message that schools are overall safer than the community for kids both in terms of COVID and overall health and safety needs to get out and canā€™t be emphasized enough.

Wonder why this bullshit was published? Wonder why it was posted here unquestioned

You say that about everything.
