COVID-19: Chapter 9 - OMGicron

UK just seems to be voluntarily taking a massively stupid approach on vaccinating kids.

Yes, because Dems need to lean into political polarization instead of BS about America needing a strong Republican Party.

Don’t these numbers actually mean that Biden’s approach has strong bipartisan appeal?

I guess Biden awkwardly stumbling into good policy decisions is going to be his legacy.

“One of the big enemies that we have is social media. Some people believe everything they see,” said Guevara, who is originally from Venezuela. “Every Sunday, I tell them, ‘Has anyone found the chip? The day that one of you finds a chip that is sufficiently small to fit inside a needle, you’ll have to show it to me.’”

A strategy Guevara says is not worth deploying: rhetoric about loving your neighbor as yourself.

“I used to stand up every Sunday at Mass and tell people about how important it is to look out for others by getting vaccinated. I didn’t get through to folks at all with that,” she said.

Whereas the US has the kids stepping up to fill the anti-vaxxers places.

A couple items of note in this story, but i’m wondering if i understand this right. It says vaccinated are about 10 times less likely to be hospitalized and 11 times less likely to die. The way i read that is if I’m unlucky enough to be hospitalized then my odds from there are not a lot better than those of an unvaccinated person. Or is that not the way to interpret it?

Sorry i never post links, haven’t looked at how to make the preview appear.

Hooray Moderna!!

Looks like I got the right one in the end!

I just read the article, and it only addressed the comparison partially by implying that if you’re a vaxxed old it could still go badly if you need to be hospitalized.

If you’re vaxxed, not old, and in reasonable health it seems pretty rare at this point to end up hospitalized with COVID, although I’ll defer to the actual hospital employees in this thread.

My friend back in the early 80s had this on cassette. Loved the whole thing. Highway Song is one of the better examples of starting slow and then driving to the end. Not so much a break in tempo, more like a slow build up.

Didn’t we have data that myocarditis as a effect of Covid itself was much higher than the vax? Like 10x per population so it’s a bit of false equivalency.

Get vaxxed and have a chance at myocarditis.

Stay unvaxxed and have a higher chance of myocarditis and the chance of complicated Covid (and was the Covid risk of hospitalization be delta or the OG strain)

I see CN’s pony lapped mine.

Yeah I shouldn’t have used myself as the example. I’ll be fine. Shook a little bit for my parents. Also shook about the Pfizer numbers, though all my nearest and dearest got Moderna.

They don’t have the spine for it. It would mean ignoring petulant crying and throwing of things by the overvolumed minority.

The UK MEDIA often strikes me as Pro Covid PR. But I may just be misinterpreting things.

Of course they don’t. We need people in power who actively enjoy hurting our enemies and celebrate their suffering.

What about those of us who got both Pfizer and Moderna?

Saying Democrats are the same as republicans in the covid thread is ludicrous
