He’d fit in well.
Some teachers are scheduled walk down the hallway in between classes to make sure that students aren’t getting in any trouble or aren’t late. Another role added to that since the pandemic is to make sure that students are wearing their masks. Turns being a mall cop into being a mutawa.
What I didn’t expect to see is so many teachers not wearing their masks in the hallway. Sure, teenage students are capable of making their own decisions but teachers should be setting an example.
I can at least be grateful that way more students are vaccinated than I expected. I mean it hasn’t stopped covid from reaching the school but it might buy some time and encourage others to get vaccinated.
I’m on team deworm this thread.
We are still in the throws of the worst global pandemic of our lifetime, and there is plenty of information I’d like to stay updated on. Vaccine effectiveness over time, severity of illness in vaccinated, case surge info, regional restrictions, mandates, etc. This thread has been the absolute best catch all in that regatd since before COVID landed in the US.
We’re now on day 4 of an unbearable derail between like four posters. Take it to PMs. When you all hash out an agreement on your Ivermectin stances feel free to update the rest of us here with one, concise post.
And for those of you interested in Moderna 3rd dose side effects, I’m still not back to 100%. Fever broke about 28 hours after the shot which was quicker than dose 2, but bad body pains, extreme fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes are still lingering. Also got a rash at the injection site which didn’t happen previously.
Don’t think I’ll be getting the Moderna booster. Czech government mentioned that the vast majority will get Pfizer and that mixing vaccines is okay.
Can I ask why (and how) you got a third dose? I didn’t think that was a thing yet. When did you get your second dose?
Damn honestly that sounds really rough. Then again my 2nd dose was only like 12 hours of fever and then a day of body aches.
Mom is set to get her booster in 2 weeks. She wanted the flu shot first because the flu almost killed her before, and they recommended we wait two weeks. But the 2nd shot wasn’t too bad for her, so if the booster isn’t as bad hopefully it’ll be ok.
I’m immunocompromised so was eligible for the booster. Second dose was on 2/15/21.
2nd dose was three days of fever for me, peaking at 103.x for over a day. So this was not quite as bad. My dad got his 3rd dose last Friday and had zero side effects, same as the 2nd dose for him. Hopefully your mom experiences the same.
Make it stop.
Can I ask a stupid question? I’ve seen it explained that “immunocompromised” folks would be candidates for a 3rd dose. I’ve also seen it explained that “immunocompromised” people are a group that would have legitimate medical concerns about the vaccine.
How do I reconcile this? Simply different auto-immune conditions that would put someone in one group vs the other?
Just curious about how the logistics work - was this something where your doctor called you and said, “Hey, you should get this”? Or did you have to contact your doctor and say, “Hey, this seems like maybe something I should consider”?
I’m generally wondering if doctors are doing active outreach for boosters (and the vaccination in general), or if they’re just responding to questions about the vaccine when asked.
Damn three days of fever going up to 103 is definitely the worst vaxx story I’ve heard. Glad you’re protected though. Do you plan on going out more now that you got your booster?
I thought the whole immunocompromised thing with the vaccine is fear about lack of effectiveness, not some negative side effect. Maybe there is a subset that has different issues?
My partner’s parents are now pozzed. They both work in a school and refused to get vaccinated regardless of any incentive we give them because of Facebook posts and the Ivermectin crowd. So I’m going to say Ivermectin and the morons touting it or saying “It’s a freeroll!” or “well it might work!” are doing some harm.
You don’t give any quarter to this bullshit because it’s literally killing people. It’s not that complicated.
250+ Ivermectin posts laboriously dewormed. I hope that the side-effects do not include further diarrhea in this thread.
I know others have touched on this but the problems we are experiencing flow from everything in America being a consumer experience. Life as a series of choices with no wrong answer. Obviously the media landscape is horribly damaging and unhealthy and all that, but fundamentally what these idiots want is to feel special in some way, and the Don Drapers on the right have figured out how to deliver. It’s the same reason these assholes flock to mega churches. They’re just lonely.
I received (mass) messages from multiple doctors encouraging the booster. Here’s one of them. Blurred out the hospitals name cause, well, I don’t know I’m easily doxxed anyway but whatever.
Yea the second dose was not fun, but at the same time was very uplifting knowing that I was building some protection against the thing that kept me in my house for damn near a year at that point. I won’t be changing my habits, and if anything will start being more cautious as Delta gets worse. I never stopped masking indoors, and that certainly won’t be changing any time soon. I’ve been pretty comfortable being unmasked outdoors, but that may change at some point.
30 days for attempted kidnapping?
What a steal!
Closely related to this the idea that ignorance is a valid alternative point of view.
I’m not aware of any particular risk from the vaccine to immunocompromised people. The risk that’s most obvious is that they don’t have enough T- and/or B-cells that don’t put in enough work generating antibodies or remembering the antigen in response to the antigens your cells start making in response to the vaccines, and thus they won’t generate a robust response to a true infection. There isn’t really a pathway from a lackluster immune response to a vaccine to harm just from that vaccine. Harm from the vaccine would usually be from an immune response that is too strong, or from being allergic to one of the ingredients in the vaccines (which is itself an immune response that is too strong relative to a harmless ingredient). So maybe you’ve heard about people with overactive immune systems and are lumping them in with the immunocompromised?
Bottom line, a booster for these people gives their immune system another stab at generating antibodies and remembering the antigen, as repeated exposure does help reinforce immunity even when your immune system isn’t as strong for whatever reason (AIDS, chemo, transplant patients on immunosuppressant drugs, etc.), and for at least most of them, there’s no higher risk to them from it than to anyone healthy.
