I always wondered how that works in a medical sense. Do they just do massive doses? Iāve done it for recreation and the idea of someone operating on me while Iām high on ketamine sounds terrifying
This is what I was thinking about yesterday in the context of the anti-vax cops and police unions. At this point, concluding that you donāt want to get vaccinated is such a crystal clear demonstration of poor judgement. And people with such obviously poor judgement and critical thinking skills should be purged from professions where people are making life and death judgement calls all the time.

Standard adult dose for IV ketamine is 1-2mg/kg IV, comes out to be ~100 most times. Itās 4-5mg/kg IM. You can use in in smaller doses for pain, anxiety. The reason why ER docs like it so much is that you can put someone down quickly without affecting respiratory reflexes nearly as much as other sedating drugs. Basically itās a lot safer.
Itās not really used as a general anesthetic anymore. I use it for sedating before intubating sometimes, or if I need to put your bone back in place or some other painful procedure.
Injected it in my stomach muscle once in the 90s in a sunflower field and danced with the sunflowers lol. Had a friend that got a steady supply from someone working at a vet clinic and he did way too much over the course of a year. He now thinks the earth is flat and a bunch of other conspiracies. Not sure if that was part of the cause lmao.

I wonder what itās like at those doses. If you do a large recreational dose itās rather unpleasant and psychedelic. You basically get super lost. I would not really want to experience that times 10.
