COVID-19: Chapter 6 - ThanksGRAVING

well, I’ll be taking 1g of Tylenol 3-4x per day to help with the fever and muscle aches per a study I read on managing the side effects of it

I read those articles. It was a sore arm and one night of fever chills. They should really fuck off right now with those headlines.

Newsom still not doing enough. Most of the state will eventually fall under a 3 week stay at home order. Let’s see what is still allowed under that order -

Schools that are already open can remain so. Outdoor religious services will still be able to be held, even though parks and playgrounds will be closed. Retailers will be able to continue operating indoors at 20% capacity (absolutely no way that number is enforced or enforceable)

It’s just not enough, and I understand he needs vital fed support to be able to do what needs to be done to curtail this correctly, but the country’s largest state is about to go tits up, and the best we can do is this?

Why does this nonsense keep getting spread around.

Dammit I had successfully scrolled past that shit

Recent reporting out there says that immunity lasts at least six months, so people may be reading headlines and the number sticks in their head.

People are stupid. They can’t read “lasts at least six months” without understanding “last only six months”. Headline writers are the worst.

the seasonal flu shot is very closely related to influenza evolutions, which are much faster than covid. i did some reading because i was concerned about it, but most of what we know about antibody immunity seems to indicate that it would be much longer than months. probably years. as long as cdc monitors it and makes preparations if it finds significant rna changes, it should be fine. which is to say cdc will probably stop tracking it during second trmp term in '24. waaf.

Don’t even think it was that. Just that antibodies may only last six months. Even if you don’t have any antibodies memory T cells can quickly ramp up a specific immune response to a pathogen.

It seems like as long as the only way in for CV-19 is that spike protein, the vaccine stands a chance of being long lasting. But I really don’t know anything about this stuff.

Cali going to be the first to hit 20k cases in a day once San Diego reports. Overall the state has done well but that recent curve is nuts.

wapo 3:38pm PT: 212k cases (record), 2746 deaths.

My partner is a funeral director, but I don’t think she qualifies as a health care worker or first responder. Which seems like bullshit.

ok, but Mono, Inyo, SLO, and Santa Barbara counties being included in “southern California” is completely ridiculous.

The lack of Federal dollars are a problem, but it is more than that.

Even in LA, what percentage of the population is going to rebel against a stricter lockdown? What is the government willing to do in order to enforce a stricter lockdown? Real
jail time? Use of force by the authorities? Something like 1/4-1/3 of the country thinks this is part of a Soros plot to install communism and sterilize the populace, or at least some slightly more benign version of that. The governor of this deep blue state is out dining at the French Laundry.

“Strict” lockdowns like what we saw in March are just not in the cards, never mind a real lockdown. Saner states will avoid the worst offenses like keeping the bars open. Hopefully the curve will slow down as the more sane people go back to March levels of restrictions on their own and the healthcare system will only break and not totally collapse. But another 250k-500k deaths doesn’t appear close to the highest price the country is willing to pay to avoid a strict lockdown anywhere in the country, and we are content with long COVID being whatever it is going to be.

Just thank God the vaccine news appears to
be good. It has been vaccine or bust from the start here in USA and I shudder to think the annual death and disability numbers we would accept without one. Seems like a few hundred k dead a year maybe more without blinking an eye.

Safety Controversy

In April 2020, a whistleblower complaint by former Head of US Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) Rick Bright revealed concerns over providing funding for the further development of molnupiravir due to similar drugs having mutagenic properties (producing birth defects).[4] A previous company, Pharmasset, that had investigated the drug’s active ingredient had abandoned it. These claims were denied by George Painter, CEO of DRIVE, noting that toxicity studies on molnupiravir had been carried out and data provided to regulators in the US and UK, who permitted safety studies in humans to move forward in the spring of 2020. Also at this time, DRIVE and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics stated they planned future safety studies in animals.[5]

I would definitely want to see safety information on this drug prior to taking it. Nucleic acid analogs can be really dangerous or unpleasant, even if they can be effective against things that are rapidly replicating. Here’s one that is a common chemotherapy drug:

Like, taking this is better than dying of cancer, but the side effects are a sunnuvabitch.

Yeah this has been going on for 8 months now

If immunity were only 6 months we’d have thousands of cases of March/April pozzes getting pozz lately.

Every month we don’t get a gush of cases is another month of immunity.

LA County is run by a Board of Supervisors. They are in open war against the LA County Sheriff, who is a dickhole. He won’t do jack shit they ask him to do and has already refused to enforce lockdown stuff.
