china locking up in buildings with mandatory testing is a major factor
FUCk fuckuty fuck. I really hate that the majority of posters here are right. This second wave is going to fuck us up.
That was 6 months ago. Chinese nationals are now the worlds only accepted 2020 tourists
China almost eradicating it should be a major learining factor
China put 500k in lockdown in late June. Lockdown means a military perimeter. You are misinformed. Modern democracies would never tolerate what China has done.
edit: and september China's Coronavirus Lockdown In Xinjiang Is Severe — And Controversial : Goats and Soda : NPR
Oh June, that little corner of China - understood and remembered
UK was shut down for 3 months, as was rest of Europe. No military required.
In August:
Except in Xinjiang. A sweeping, western region nearly four times the size of California, Xinjiang remains largely cut off from the rest of the country and its some 22 million residents under heavy lockdown, an effort officials say is needed to contain a cluster of more than 800 officially diagnosed cases.
You’re just wrong.
Nah man, China is straight-up lying.
If only the rest of the world didn’t think they were invincible and took drastic steps to stop this when China was willingly crippling it’s own economy with strict lockdowns. Then maybe hundred of thousands wouldn’t have to die.
Love live the DOW jones I guess.
That’s how you eradicate. When did the US ever have 800 daily cases?
Yeah, OFB is US in August - 100k daily cases by Monday
Could you source your quotes? TIA
Some of y’all really need to think long and hard if you’d be ok with enforcing military perimeters with lockdowns orders of magnitude harder than the west. I wouldn’t be ok with that.
it’s in the post above as an edit
Xinjiang isn’t that locked down because that’s where the concentration camps for Uyghurs are?
Is that where the separate the kids from the parents?
Uyghurs get toothpaste too.
But yes, not good!
Well, yes, but they’re also “re educating” and disappearing hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs
Also this.
Giving china any credit for their covid response after they murdered the doctors who first spoke up about it and allowed it to spread worldwide crosses into ridiculousness.
Fair enough. I won’t argue too hard because I lack proof. And to be clear, I am NOT suggesting this was intentionally unleashed as an attack. All I know is that I’ve never seen anything like this in my lifetime. My parents never saw anything like it in theirs’. And neither have my grandparents. I get that the 1918 H1N1 (incorrectly called the Spanish Flu) infected about 500M people and that it’s much easier for a virus to travel the globe now. It’s just I find something suspicious about how contagious this SARs virus is and the way it attacks the body. I wanna say the last SARs outbreak in 2003 infected only around ~8k people worldwide. We’re at 43M in less than a year with no end in sight. I’m not even sure we’re through the first wave yet
SARS the original didn’t spread as far because it was too deadly and caused significant symptoms in pretty much everyone.
lol. SIlenced may be, but not too well, eh? Story miraculously got out. He died from this new thing called Covid.
You’re at Trumpian levels of denial.
We have the president of the US lying on a minutely basis and a ratonal Chinese response (for China) who, BTW, will be spending Xmas with family because, whatever they did, other than lying, seems to have eradicated the disease
They also stopped eating dogs so erase that from your stereotypes
Bedtime here :)
True. But also kind of my point. Why is this SARs so much different 17 years later? I would think it would take many successful mutations to become this adept at being asymptomatic for 14 days to find new hosts so it can thrive so well. Yet, it is novel.
