I think there’s a reasonable chance (maybe 5% instead of ~0% if it was random) it escaped the lab accidentally, but virtually no chance it was weaponized.
They could have been researching a bunch of naturally occurring bat coronaviruses and it could have walked out of the lab. But that’s an accident with a natural virus not a weaponization and/or attack.
I’m also not interested in getting into an argument over whether my scenario is 5% or 1% or 0.1%, most of the forum thinks it’s 0.0% and I think it’s non-zero and we can leave it at that.
Seems reasonable that anything novel could cause this as our immune systems don’t recognize it.
I’m getting ready to go to my “weekly” (more like bi-monthly) poker game and I’m literally sick to my stomach over the risk I feel I have to take for money.

Yep - I just watched us shoot a rocket into space and fly it back and land on a boat in the middle of the ocean, but we can’t defeat some dumb virus who’s kryptonite is wearing a stupid mask. Cool.

COVID is probably not causing cytokene storms, which is possibly why it isn’t killing younger people the way the Spanish Flu did.

yeah, it’s really not ok that people accept the weaponization theory more readily than viruses are just present in rats and pangolin and mutate all the time. the very real aspect of chemical weapons, which relatively quickly turned public consensus against them, was that they could not be targeted only at the military. a huge percentage of those who died were civilians not in the conflict.
biological weapons in the form of a virus all have the same problem, except you likely cannot even wait out the effects or stop it once it gets out. it will keep mutating and become a seasonal threat like the flu of 1918. i suppose if you were sure that the adversary was so poorly prepared and disastrously mismanaged compared to your own response to covid, you might still consider it a weapon. but the cost of killing large numbers of non-combatants is essentially destruction of giant slice of wealth on both sides of the conflict. it doesn’t really make sense, and you would have to make several irrational calculations before you would deploy bio weapons.

It sure seems like some states are timing their reopening so the eventual hospital explosion comes in around Nov 4th.

I went diving yesterday - on a big open boat or underwater the whole time - gotta be one of the safest recreational activities you can do.
They still had to adhere to making everyone wear masks even when the boat was at full speed which seemed kinda silly. So naturally I threw a tantrum and yelled Trump 2020 MAGA! at the female divemaster until she cried. Great day all around.

I feel China’s ~15 new cases a day is 75% down to ~100% mask compliance and 25% spraying every surface in the country repeatedly but USA thinks masks alone can save us
