Feeling a bit worried today. My BP is spiking for the first time since my injury last November, with no noticeable cause. Considering how aggresive this thing can be against the cardiovascular system, I’m stressing a little, which only makes the BP spike higher so I am attempting to not let it get to me.
Second wave wasn’t worse, just had better testing.
It doesn’t cause rises in blood pressure. Stop taking your blood pressure repeatedly. All that matters short term is how you feel.
I just realized that this weekend is the start of Big 10 football. Glgl to all those college towns where the students will definitely not be gathering to party and watch the games.
Watch your diet. I try hard to lay off salt/sodium but reach for the pretzel/chip family when stressed. My BP with my home monitor is very sensitive to Na intake
Load up on some potassium, take a hot bath or shower.
And whatever @CaffeineNeeded and your own doc say.
So this guy is a buddy of mine. I’m really happy he’s out of the hospital. Things were not looking good. He was on a vent for 7 weeks back in the spring and had to learn how to walk again.
The eagles sideline reporter guy and local legend Howard Eskin has a (so far) mild case. The committee enjoys his Schtick so the nomination is denied.
You enjoy Eskin? Uggggh he’s a deplorable. He’s on team shut up and dribble, basically.
And it’s not really schtick. At least, he’s the same douche on the sideline when the cameras and mics are off, I’ll put it that way.
The only host in Philly who’s been a bigger ass over the last 20 years was Innes.
I think it is totally normal to feel this way. I suspect that this is also the reason behind some of the Covid-denying I see. People cannot handle the pressure and use that as their coping mechanism.
I have a facebook-contact, who is the classic example of this. She works in a mental health related field and constantly shares videos showing the supposed risks of wearing masks.
If you talk to her about it, she always turns to how it is so stressful for „the children“. Her kids are the same age as mine and go to the same schools. My kids are mostly fine, so I guess it has a lot to do with how the parents react concerning the rules we have.
I hate most of the „this is just the flu“ people, but I feel kind of bad for her.
Oh, and our county has just moved from <10 cases per 100.000 per week ten days ago to >50. Fun times ahead.
Mostly it’s how he handles the idiot callers Saturday mornings on his radio show.
Glen and Ray are the bomb tho.
Interesting. Lots of caveats but the take homes seem to be
Schools in areas with low case rates can open with minimal impact on spread provided masking and SD are followed.
It is likely that there are associated events (parties, locker rooms, etc) that may actually be the spread observed in some locations (aside from the morons that have schools with poor masking and SD).
This may have some connections with the apparent lower transmission in younger kids. Though the age data is pretty confounded.
And of course it you want low case rates in the communities then bars, indoor eating, etc are not advised.
And as we all know here, many will read this as schools no problem without paying any attention to the caveats and limitations.
Goddamn, I feel like yelling this from the rooftops:
“If you’re really trying to keep kids in school, you have to do this in a much different way,” he said — with an expectation not of zero risk, but of risk managed by safety measures.
Rather than closing schools where community transmission is high, businesses like restaurants, bars or other indoor spaces where adults congregate should be shuttered, Dr. Rubin said.
Facing an immense second wave, some countries in Europe, like the Netherlands, have instituted restrictions on indoor dining, private gatherings and public transportation. “And they said none of this applies to schools, because education is too important,” Dr. Nichols said. “It’s just such a different priority.”
I think the basic consensus in this thread is:
-opening schools needs to be a priority (especially over bars and restaurants) and,
-opening schools when case rates are sky high is insane.
That article seems about in line with that.
To talk about a different but related issue. The Covid deniers do have one thing right. We can’t live like this forever. The problem is they think the solution is to just ignore it which isn’t possible. 6 months into OPEN FOR BUSINESS the economy is still a shell of itself and you literally can’t go anywhere without being reminded we are in a dangerous pandemic which takes the fun out of it anyways.
The obvious solution all along was to do everything possible to get cases down and then test and trace until we have a vaccine. It seems to be working well throughout most of Asia. There is no going back to anything resembling normal before that happens.
This is the approach the CR will likely turn to once they get the numbers down.
Of course there’s now a scandal with the Minister of Health being pictured in a restaurant without wearing a mask. Both the government and opposition are calling on him to resign. The PM is threatening to fire him if he doesn’t. The MoH said that they’ll have to fire him.
Simply put Prymula’s actions are not consistent with what the Czech government wants to do which is to play politics with covid. They got their dirt and now we can move towards OFS and OFB.
Wonder if Russia takes in refugees.
Cliffs: with 20-20 hindsight, it seems folks went overboard regarding contact spread issues.
Should note that in the CR, the PM needs to get permission from the president to fire someone.
Of course that almost always gets permitted. So, Prymula gets Fauci’d for not going along with the government and playing politics. Supposed replacement seems alright but I feel for Prymula. Dude kicked ass during the first wave despite sitting behind a failed pop star in the Ministry of Health. Then he gets screwed by the government when he takes control because the restrictions are unpopular.
Chessmate
We should hit a new all-time high today. If the growth rate stays the same we’re looking at ~110K cases per day by election day, and probably flirting with 200K by turkey day with no intervention.
