I hope they test next week and the week after etc to see how that spreads.

But if starting with that low of an incidence rate, schools just might work.

The problem is most places in the country aren’t starting from that low.

Mask debaters. Hee-hee

Nah. I fuck it up all the time. Always get it lopsided and before you know it I don’t have one.

I do some basic maintenance on it but every 2-3 months I like to get it professionally done.

The beard should be behind a mask for the next x months so who cares what she looks like

If it’s any consulation, my wife doesn’t bother with the nail salon during covid times either

Yeah. I had a covid beard during the first wave. But it’s bad because it breaks the seal that the mask has around the face. With covid beard, I was rolling my beard so I could stuff it under my mask.

Now I got a fresh start before the salons inevitably close down.

My kids’ middle school started back today with the option to go in-person or remote. Somewhere around 70% of the students returned to school (mine did not). On a parents’ Facebook group last night, one mom asked fellow parents to try to gather up a bunch of kids from the neighborhood carpool as much as possible to reduce the morning line, since so many people are likely going to avoid the bus.

One dad questioned her, pointing out that stuffing a half dozen kids in a car is probably worse than putting them on a bus, where there’s a chance they might be able to spread out a little.

That’s right. Virus doesn’t transmit underwater.

UK - Carpooling works if the same kids will be in the same ‘bubble year’ i.e they’ll be sat within inches of each other at school so why’s the car so different - reduces the non-direct infections assocaited with schools i.e. 6 different moms making the drive, each calling into supermarket on way back and spreading at +75% rate of the kids

If the kids are all different ages and different years, then ya, one infection in the car pool, most likely from a family member not in said pool sees the whole school as having a good chance of contracting

Cue Danspartan: But if they had the car air circulation on non-recirculate or windows open

Low number of people In car is probably the biggest factor.

All wearing masks?

But yes I’d recommend windows at least cracked.

When I was on my trip to MN/WI I saw my son from Omaha. He was in town for a wedding including a couple of nights in a cabin up north for the bachelor outing. Not what I’d call quarantining.

I rode in a car with him briefly but we were both masked (KN95 plus cloth for me) AND we had the windows full down.

Got my flu shot. Was heartened to see a ton of people getting it.

Convenience of shorter carpool line >>> people’s lives to many in the US

Hey buddy I remember you saying you were going to visit your kid to help them out, did that happen yet? Hows that going? You seem like an elite dad.

Yes. Spent 5 days with him and 2 up north w my grandsons.

We got some cleaning done on his place. He is seeing an MD for health and depression/anxiety. He has found an online support group for drinking. He still needs to find a mental health pro. He is on nexalone(?) which is supposed to help with cravings???!

He had also started doing some more constructive things with his time. He is doing tennis drills weekly and his friend group has an online game night. His sister and Mom (who has her own untreated depression) are keeping close tabs on him.

The canoe photo was with him. I totally get what isolation does to people during covid. Getting out makes a world of difference.

This must be a dumb question because I don’t understand beard culture, but why not just shave during a pandemic in high community spread areas until it’s safe to go back to salons?

Thats good to hear. Sounds like he has the support system he needs which is the most important thing. Moms worked at a rehab center for 25ish years, as both of my parents were severe addicts for the most of my childhood.

Sounds like he’s on the right track, wishing him all the best.

It looks like they backfilled some cases for yesterday. So scratch what I was saying earlier. Today is another huge w/w increase. There is definitely a chance we break the all time record this week.

Thanks much. I have a friend there that he has no idea how he survived into his 30s with all the things he took. He is in his fifties and a grandfather now. His ex still struggles to this day.

One really good thing that happened is that my son’s work (he is the accountant for a small company that does story inventories) has really supported him. He was out three weeks and when he went back and he offered to take the three weeks unpaid they told him not to worry about it. His boss said that he got a lot of appreciation for how much my son does when he had to fill in for those three weeks.

The big thing is to get him to follow up on his shyness and social anxiety. Unless he addresses those he is just going to hide from the world again down the road.
