I text a few cousins/aunts/uncles, but the amount we keep in touch would go down a ton without Facebook. And ultimately it’s not going anywhere, so if I quit all I’m doing is depriving myself of a way to keep in touch with family and friends.
„Day of Freedom“ happens to be the title of a Leni Riefenstahl propaganda piece.
While this protest attracted idiots from all across the political spectrum it‘s mainly the far right that is instrumentalizing the anti-mask sentiments for their political gain. Anything that gets people riled up is fair game, pure distilled populism.
Co signed for friends too. I felt a huge shift in the quality of my relationships once I quit primarily talking through social media and moved to email and phone calls. If I’m in touch with a person, let’s give it some substance. Whatever that means for each of us with different kinds of compatibilities. It takes more effort and time, but does it really? How much time does a person spend reviewing shallow stuff on FB (or Unstuck Politics) that they’d feel far more fulfilled exploring with one or two of those people in depth?
Obv that is just what works for me, and I’m on board with casual social media acquaintances in general or I wouldn’t be posting here ffs
I think the people meeting in echo chambers and reinforcing their beliefs has happened since the earliest days of the web. However, what makes facebook especially evil is it is designed to steer you towards these niche communities if you are prone to certain biases.
I agree that Face Book is a good way to keep in contact with certain types of relatives and hiking groups and whatnot. Just keep in mind that that takes maybe 30 minutes per week, so if you’re on more than that, you need a new reason.
Ok can you give me 2 weeks please. Posting here so people will know where I went. Not that I think anyone will cry. I quit old 2p2 politics for like 3 months and was sad that no one even seem to notice I was gone
But anyway I love you all I just need to work on my book and stop spinning my wheels on the internet. I’ll see you in 2 weeks.
