Pretty encouraging that there might be some usable middle ground between bunkering and acting like you are an extra in a Girls Gone Wild video.
That facebook post is so over the top non-sensical that at first I suspected it to be a parody, then I remembered just how idiotic some people are. [cf. Poe’s Law]
The patent number cited is related to SARS research
This is exactly what someone suffering from the Dunning-Kruger effect would tell people once they learned about the effect accidentally.
My wife is connected to my bosses wife on Instagram. And apparently she is a raging anti vaccer, q anon etc. I’m fairly sure my boss knows his wife is that way and just whatever’s it but I know they are very religious.
She posted today about the couple hundred thousand sealed indictments, that might be my favorite Q anon thing, the hundreds of thousands of mass arrests always about to be done right around the corner.
We’ve had this derail already so let’s not do it again, but " In the field of psychology, the Dunning – Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with low ability at a task overestimate their ability. It is related to the cognitive bias of illusory superiority and comes from the inability of people to recognize their lack of ability."
Bolded directly relates to the sentence I quoted.
I have no idea what you are trying to tell me I messed up, I guess I’m on the left side of the chart.
If you see the name Bill Gates in a Facebook post right now, you don’t have to read further.
I thought it was Porsche.
This thread was an absolutely brutal read. Just jaw dropping. I knew this stuff was out there but it is demoralizing to read these comments first hand and consider that this is how many of our families and coworkers (possibly friends) think.
If you are the only person wearing a mask in your office at the moment, rest assured that everyone else thinks you are a completely brainwashed liberal cuck.
This goes along with the idea I was getting blasted for on here a few days ago - that there’s some “low-hanging fruit” threshold of maybe 20%-ish [not calling it herd immunity] - in a fairly locked-down environment where office drones are working from home, bars are closed, no big gatherings, churches aren’t going full steam, most are wearing masks, etc.
So once a place hits that [again, not calling it herd immunity] threshold, it’s not going to blow up again unless those other social distancing measures are eased (like schools opening up again).
Which is basically common sense, I think people were just getting hung up on the words. But my only question is where is that threshold and how close are other places. It feels like 20%-ish, and the FL/TX/AZ blowup hit it, then crested in new cases (minus some effect for testing suppression).
Your theory is correct I think in an abstract sense. Easing measures like schools reopening happens 100% of the time though. So the virus will soon have plenty of low hanging fruit and rage again. Sure that might mean a temporary pause but that’s it.
Right, it’s not herd immunity. It’s closer to being in a large bubble with minimal to no high risk encounters.
Of course, places opening schools are going to basically be popping everyone’s bubbles.
Unless you live in a place like LA (and not Orange County) - then it’s the opposite thankfully. Anti-maskers are shamed.
But yeah - I feel like even on here most don’t grasp how many are so far gone down a bubble that they aren’t even aware of the basic arguments against their side. Just look at the threads on the home politics page:
And look at the traffic. All these threads posted in today. And there’s tons more posted in today. This is not some tiny corner of the internet with a few wingnuts. This is an entire social scene with 100s of active posters and 1 or 2 token liberals where everyone gets their bubble-view constantly validated and almost never challenged. It puts Chiefsplanet to shame.
LOL at “Workplace Sensitivity Training” and “Black Business Month.”
I realize it’s possible that people just tend to ease up the exact right amount to let the virus plow into new territory with each successive blow up, maybe even likely. But until I see it happen I’m not going to assume it’s 100% a given.
Europe and Asia seem to be avoiding more blowups. Blue states could follow the same paths.
I mean these places eventually open schools right? Maybe we hit a vaccine before some places do i dunno.
Covid is like the 30th biggest news story to them. Clinton Epstein bombshell is massively more important.
Seriously Chiefsplanet DC forum is a healthy heterogenous debate from all sides of the political spectrum compared to the Corvette forum.
TBH the liberals seem to actually be growing in the DC forum. It’s now the most mixed political forum I know of. Chiefsplanet leading the charge in piercing bubbles. Did not have that one on my scorecard. It makes sense that if you have enough participants, and generally have facts and logic on your side, you’re going to slowly move the needle. The one open Biden supporter is ever moving the needle on that Corvette forum though.
I don’t count well-named’s Nazi forum because it just has liberals and alt-right and really bad right wing trolls. There are no true believers who actually try to argue in good faith that Trump is doing a good job.
Maybe. We’re going to find out.
I’m 2+ years Facebook free. It’s in my top 5 decisions during that time span.
Given the choice of who should get shot in this picture can you imagine picking the Kudu?
