COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

I don’t think anyone ever mentioned drugs, but I somehow got the impression some people thought that there were a decent number of Inland Empire meth heads playing poker there.

Just lol at living in the NE unless you have to. Come on. The weather sucks, it costs a ton, taxes are high and transportation is a disaster.

No way I could take the SE in the summer. Fuck that. And no skiing in the winter. Fuck that even harder.

I’ve lived in NE for 30 years and SE for 10. Wait til you have to deal with nuances in the SE that will seem impossible in the NE. Just off the top of my head…

  1. Hearing casual N bombs.
  2. People putting the heat on because it’s 75 degrees outside.
  3. Grits. Fuck grits.
  4. Dominos is considered good pizza.
  5. Waitresses smoking a cigarette while taking your order.

The weather is getting better up here and culture goes a long way for a certain class of snob

A study found the D614G variant is 3 to 6 times more transmissible than the original virus.

The vast majority of infections worldwide are the G variant now.

It’s interesting, after the Italy outbreak there were recriminations about not taking it seriously enough, like in Australia the government was criticised for not closing the border earlier. But in fact we were dealing with a different beast before Italy happened, as that outbreak was the first major G-variant outbreak.

Never saw any in the games I played. It was mostly older wealthy guys and the occasional bad reg. The PLO was bananas but I never bothered to learn.

I mean I thought we all wanted higher taxes to help pay for shit people need? For sure they need to be used better but I’m surprised people here are upset about living in a liberal state because of high taxes.

I mean yeah the taxes in CA suck but they also pay for a ton of good shit.

Grits are delicious!

I’m not upset about it, I just wouldn’t be signing up to play LA 5/5 600max $5 drop on the flop poker with an effective 40% federal+local tax rate and obscenely high rent.

Lake Elsinore definitely had great action pre-COVID. It’s no more sketchy than any other SoCal card room, and they remodeled their interior a few years ago so it’s not so bad anymore. Tribal casinos have better rake than card rooms, in general, but I’m not sure if any but Pechanga will even reopen their poker rooms at all.

rake has increased across the board in San Diego and Riverside counties, but it’s still not LA level. A couple of places in SD are still no flop no drop, but who knows what it will be when everything opens back up.

You would be the only person in the game with that tax rate. I respect you for it.

I pulled a number out of my ass somewhat, but isn’t that going to be the total City + State + Federal tax rate on someone making say 75 to 125? That’s probably what I’d expect to make playing a mix of 2/5 and 5/T.

I’m with you on everything but the grits hate. Well done cheddar grits are godlike.

I’m saying that the other guys in the game playing for a living are going to have a much lower tax rate…

Grunching, but there are threads for:

Video games.
Baseball legacies
Poker low content.
Finance

Sucks getting 300+ posts behind in a thread many of us rely on for up to date info on the pandemic, only to wade through majority non-pertinent discussion.

Dunno if that’s a reference to their winrate or their tax avoidance habits lol…

Rachel said NBC reporting US passed 70,000 cases today.
