I’m almost certain she’s also anti-vax, don’t think her idiocy is a product of desperation.

I was reading about this today and thought I would share because it was mostly new info to me:

If I’m understanding correctly, the speculation is basically that the virus may cause an immune cascade (excessive activation of complement proteins and inflammatory pathways) which results in clotting and thus respiratory failure, kidney failure, and strokes. And this might be the main problem, not pneumonia. So they are looking closer at blood thinners and immunosuppressant drugs for treatment.

Yes. Probably only in certain areas of the country, but its definitely possible for a solid player with discipline and game selection skills to beat live 2/5 for >$50/hr.

Probably easily achievable in Texas or Florida. Probably AC too.

Not in San Diego, but she’s not really a full on pro. Their clothing business was doing well enough to supplement her play

Slightly above break-even is pretty good for a rec player who is only doing this as a hobby.

I don’t think it’s easy to get much above $50/hour without a lot of straddling going on to make it a bigger game. Then, it becomes a question of how many hours you are willing to put in, but the extra hours you can add are usually not the best times.

Also CA

Oh, for sure.

I agree about the second part, but that doesn’t make him the GOAT…

The only place I wouldn’t want to do it is Cali: high rake, low buyin caps, high cost of living, high taxes.

Everywhere else I’ve played, I’d be able to make a comfortable living at 2/5. The best places are places most people wouldn’t think of, and I may not even know of them at the moment since I was playing higher and moved for a home game.

A straddle helps, but stack size is more important. My winrate is more a function of average stack size than anything else.

I guess 5/5 doesn’t count as 2/5 but all the 5/5 games I played in CA are were good and 100bb+. Though the LA games rake was ridiculous, tribal casinos weren’t bad at 4+1 and no drop under $25 with your raise not counting. Is it 3+1 in Florida?

Even when I started out playing 2/5 with $300 caps the games were ridiculous and I was around $50/h. Though obviously game selection was important.

Redacted for privacy.

It was available at my long time main casino San Manuel but their poker room is no more :frowning: Was the best room I played in socal by far, their 5/10 was easy too. Honestly probably the fishiest poker room I ever played in.

Lake Elsinore was similar.

I mean even commerce was only 5+1 so not sure where you’re getting CA rake being so much worse if thats the rake at other places.

Moneymaker scammed/slowpayed on a large sum of gambling debts on 2+2 for years.

(Source: I bet with him tons and was a big part of putting pressure on him to mostly pay).

Cliffs: He sucks.

Yea I know, my post was in jest. I thought the DUCY gave it away. I’ll never forget that hand when he sucked out on Ivey at the final table LOL.

It feels weird that you describe California as high COL yet you live in a place where your current rent is more than three times what I pay for a 2BR/2BA apartment with an attached garage.

Based on my analysis of what other people claim to win, I think that the max win-rate for most NL games over the long-run is around 10bb/hour, but you have to account for straddles in figuring out what the effective bb is. Deeper stacks may matter, but I have a hard time imagining a deep-stacked game operating without straddles. Anyone who claims to win significantly more than that is likely full of crap or has too small of a sample size.

Anyways, I miss live poker. I’m not in a rush to go back to live, but I’ll go back sooner than most here. I am worried that my local games will shrivel up and I will have to do more traveling to make money. One of the regs in my biggest game died last month. He was old and had some serious cancer issues, so maybe not COVID-related, but all he did was play poker so it seemed like the game was keeping him alive. He wasn’t an action player, but he was a dependable seat-filler and game-starter. Some players don’t appreciate those qualities and just whine about anyone who doesn’t shovel money at them.

I was hoping to pass through Lake Elsinore whenever I found time to take another trip to California. I’ve heard a few people say that they clientele there was sketchy, but I didn’t get any details.

One issue with Cali rake is that it’s not no-flop-no-drop.

The rake in LA is like 5+1 or whatever but they drop preflop and take $5 on the flop. On the East coast it’s usually 10% up to $5, and I’ve seen 5%.

I live in the city though, this is about twice what I paid in Baltimore. Suburbs would be way cheaper.

I’ve played plenty of 200bb games with maybe 2 straddles per orbit. I don’t really like getting into arguments over max attainable winrate. IMO it’s substantially higher than 10bb/hr. But I’m perfectly happy if people decide it’s 10, and more than willing to leave it at that.

I mean it was a weird dinky casino but it was pretty cool. I wouldn’t say sketchy lol.
