COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

It’s a little harder not to care with a wife working in an ICU. As an update on that they had 0 Covid patients at the low point mid-May. By mid-June they were averaging more like 5-6. Today they have 18. They are also opening a closed down hospital here to just handle Covid patients and are trying to lure nurses to work there by paying them basically 2x their normal wages.

Yeah… it turns out you really can just get used to anything. I was doing full blown dissociative episodes at the beginning… but I’m doing better psychologically now despite things objectively getting worse. I’m fairly sure that my brain is broken when it comes to extreme stress though lol. I really should not be able to tolerate so much of it without losing my mind, which does make me wonder if that’s already happened lol.

That stream of gibberish brought to you by five months living in the shadow of COVID-19.

Yeah obviously I still care I’m just trying to avoid overloading and getting too depressed to function. We’re basically all hostages to the system now. Like anyone rational knows that, and it’s basically a matter of how we decide to function for the next ~7 months until Biden takes over. I think 500K dead by the end of the year is probably what we’re looking at.

I can’t bring myself to mourn that every day, so I’m just pretending what’s happening in this country right now is kind of okay so that I can function because I know my continuing to make money is essential to my continuing to be alive and healthy.

hmm, this will be an interesting experiment, I guess.

I feel like we went over this a couple months ago, and really nothing has changed. The vast majority of people don’t know anyone who has even gotten sick from COVID-19, let alone died from it.

We knowingly and willingly decided as a nation many weeks ago to trade increased cases and deaths for an increased amount of personal freedom and economic activity.

Further, after the decisions were made to engage in re-opening in every state in the country, the graph of daily US deaths has simply decreased since the beginning of May, further reinforcing this as the right course of action to the majority of the country.

The bottom line is, no, the vast majority of the country does not care if 500 or 1000 Americans die every day, nor do they care if there are 50k new cases or 100k new cases every day. The country chose this course of action, their duly elected leaders executed upon the strategy, and it is going to take a WHOLE LOT MORE DEATH to change the direction of this ship.

Like, millions of deaths. Not hundreds or thousands. We might not like it, but breathlessly howling into the abyss day after day as the expected continues to unfold exactly as expected is beginning to feel masochistic.

Obviously today is a pessimistic day.

So birthday stuff, my wife and i just had our birthdays in mid june, we also have several other birthdays including my sons in mid june and other relatives in that time, all part of my side of the family, the whole group of that side of family in Bimringham being me, my wife and 3 kids, my two sisters, their spouses, both have 3 kids, and Heritagenothate, plus my parents. We usually do a get together, we were thinking about doing something outside, socially distanced back in late june. However, my parents went to Gatlinburg for a trip around the 20th for their anniversary lol, they wore masks and shit mostly i think, my mom said something like when they felt they were needed…, so we decided to wait a couple weeks at least as my sister was having some noncovid issues at the time as well. So we had tentatively rescheduled to this weekend. My mom calls me last night and says hey just wanted to let you know that your sister has had her kids going to camp at the country club…so FYI, didnt know if that would be a problem. I’ve said before my wife has some pre existing conditions so we have tried to be really safe over this time period.

So our options are,
1)full on party, outside, social distanced, no masks with kids and everyone
2) adults only party that can be trusted to keep distance, assuming the kids especially younger won’t be able to do that
3) Do nothing at all or like a zoom party, really just kinda leaning towards this now, especially since HnH is taking no precautions whatsoever I’m sure other than working from home.

Anyone else see the interview of the Texas sheriff on CNN? Complete moran, incapable of coherent thought and that guy was a sheriff. If I’m going to commit a crime it would be in his jurisdiction.

I think he was from Butler County, Ohio. But yeah, he was dumb as dirt.

oh baby, Butler County, OH…my home sweet home! LOL I’m totally not surprised.

Yep, this is America. If we don’t like it, we can either win in November or go somewhere else.

Was his name Churchill?

They’ve been doing this around West Palm Beach. Doesn’t seem like a terrible idea

The one in Florida has about 3x as many active coronavirus cases per capita, and that’s before adjusting for California testing vs Florida testing.

I think around here make, er face covering, wearing is increasing somewhat in the last few days.

SC numbers in:
1537 new cases (back to the plateau after a dip yesterday)
21% positive(record high)
38 deaths (record high, but the result of sand bagging this weekend)
1404 hospitalizations (Big jump after a sizable jump yesterday, +80)

Testing seems to be capped, which means we are just going to not know how many have it. Hospitalizations are rising but there’s still a ton of buffer, even at current rates we are almost 2 months til we would have to cancel further procedures and move to surge.

Well, OC CA has had some fudgery in their numbers and reporting.

And OC FL hasn’t?
