COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

Some very interesting analysis in this study.

The bradykinin hypothesis provides a model that explains many aspects of Covid-19, including some of its most bizarre symptoms.

The renin–angiotensin system (RAS) controls many aspects of the circulatory system, including the body’s levels of a chemical called bradykinin, which normally helps to regulate blood pressure. According to the team’s analysis, when the virus tweaks the RAS, it causes the body’s mechanisms for regulating bradykinin to go haywire.

The end result, the researchers say, is to release a bradykinin storm — a massive, runaway buildup of bradykinin in the body. According to the bradykinin hypothesis, it’s this storm that is ultimately responsible for many of Covid-19’s deadly effects.

Good news for those with two X chromosomes

The researchers note that some aspects of the RAS system are sex-linked, with proteins for several receptors (such as one called TMSB4X) located on the X chromosome. This means that “women… would have twice the levels of this protein than men,” a result borne out by the researchers’ data. In their paper, Jacobson’s team concludes that this “could explain the lower incidence of Covid-19 induced mortality in women.” A genetic quirk of the RAS could be giving women extra protection against the disease.

And lol imagine if Trump said something like this.

All of these potential treatments are speculative, of course, and would need to be studied in a rigorous, controlled environment before their effectiveness could be determined and they could be used more broadly.

Both. I could have gone to get a haircut 1 on 1 at my stylists home, but I’m still cutting my own instead. Every interaction increases risk and every little decision counts. For us and for our communities.

Plus if they’re opening it up for you they’re opening it up for others.

But on top of that Pelosi has to know that if she gets caught doing that, it’s a huge gotcha for the right and undermines pandemic messaging. I mean clearly she thought it was safe enough to go do…

Pelosi is the most powerful (at least top 3) Democrat, not a freshman congressperson.

Yes, if you are the speaker of the House you have to follow the letter of the rule. This stupid act not only gives an excuse to everyone who wants to flaunt CoViD safety rules but also infinite ammunition to the Trump campaign to rile up his base. I heard the next election is kinda important so do not commit unforced errors.

So her shock every time she finds out Trump lied is genuine?

In a vacuum it means little. When as a country we are seeing 1000 Americans needlessly die a day because a huge number of people refuse to follow the rules or take precaution it means more.

There are a ton of people who are in the middle on Covid precuations. They aren’t full blown Covid deniers and they aren’t in full hiding either. That middle group is still trying to figure out how seriously to take Covid. They are mostly begrudgingly following at least some of the rules.

Nancy violating the Covid law to get a haircut will just further inch this group towards giving up doing anything. After all why should the rules apply to me if Nancy, who has verbally been on the side of taking it seriously, feels like she can do whatever she wants. People want to resume normality and they don’t need much of an excuse to do it. This will be one for some people.

I got my haircut today at the same place as in mid-June. It’s not supposed to be open.

When I went in mid-June I was technically inside but it was basically outside with the massive windows all open.

Today, it was all inside, and despite making the earliest appointment, tons of people were in there. I guess it’s too hot or something, I dunno. Hope I didn’t poz myself, it’s really the first time I’ve been inside in months except for brief trips, one each, to FedEx, the bank, and the corner store. Today’s exposure was a lot worse, but everyone was wearing masks…

Let’s remove Pelosi from the equation for a second. This is stupid, illegal, immoral, and dangerous full fucking stop. The letter of the law isn’t dumb, it’s vital to keeping idiots from spreading Covid at an even faster rate. I give zero fucks about some hairdressers that managed to not spread the plague far and wide. Variance can lead to some weird results.

Now let’s add Pelosi to the mix, it seems like the business told her this was cool? Well cool then, the business should lose their operating license. Pelosi, who should fucking know better, should apologize for being a complete idiot by not knowing the law. The optics, as you so blithely put it, is 1000x more dangerous than the action itself. She is literally the leader of the party that is trying to keep the country rooted in sanity and facts, but somehow she can’t manage to follow simple rules? Fuck her.

Philly mayor Kenney got in trouble for eating indoors down in Maryland while he keeps the city restaurants outside/takeout only.

The difference is the D side calls out it’s own hypocrites while the R side says FU.

Please just one positive. Please.

Fortunately the virus respects these efforts and everyone is allowed one indoor risk every few months without the virus targeting you.

CDC guidance update:

eta context

According to the team’s findings, a Covid-19 infection generally begins when the virus enters the body through ACE2 receptors in the nose, (The receptors, which the virus is known to target, are abundant there.)

Only applies if you prefer to wear your mask under your nose.

Rules are for peasants, ldo. This shit is why Trump’s faux populism landed in 2016 and still has substantial traction now.

So we’re now on week 2 of open schools in Polk county Florida. We’ve already had 1 school featured in the daily beast with terrible social distancing.

We have the biggest high school in town with like 300 students quarantined and about 25 teachers quarantined.

On day 1 we had two kids who either received their positive test result on the first day or came to school with a positive test result (we all know it was the second case)

My girlfriend’s class is thankfully pretty small, only 11 second graders. She’s wearing an rz mask and a stark mask over the exhaust port so hopefully she runs good.

Of course local school board is already up to some bullshit, who could have expected a county with over 100 teaching vacancies would really have issues with subs during a pandemic.

If you want to do a little something about covid-19 and you have spare cpu time, you might join Rosetta@home:

https://boinc.bakerlab.org/

With the recent COVID-19 outbreak, R@h has been used to predict the structure of proteins important to the disease as well as to produce new, stable mini-proteins to be used as potential therapeutics and diagnostics, like the one displayed above which is bound to part of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.

Let’s band together and fight COVID-19!

Maybe, but not buying it. Haven’t seen people having anything other than low blood pressure from blood clots and myocarditis.
