COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

Also Floriduh, in one of the red(neck)est counties in the state, Marion county, the Sheriff is BANNING his deputies from wearing masks and banning visitors to the sheriff’s offices from wearing them, too:

Sadly, The Villages sit just slightly outside Marion, a few miles to the south :frowning:

Well over 20% with what was reported today

Some people are going to keep martingaling until they lose. Expect to read the follow up article they are setting up here. It’s basically inevitable.

Look for a hotel where rooms are accessible from the outdoors rather than an interior corridor. Then the only real risk potential is the moment when you check in, presumably in an enclosed space.

Assuming you’re checking in late, it should have had plenty of time to air out since the clearers came through.

I stayed at Hilton Brand hotels. They are putting a seal on the door after cleaning. Some of them listed a time? I believe they are all requiring masks corporate wide but idk that for certain.

Avoid the elevator. Ask for first or second floor.

I think as long as rooms have their own AC the risk is very minimal

I also looked for counties with low incidence.

Florida may end up surpassing NY in deaths at this rate even with the cheating. They are currently averaging about 4-5k/month and I see no reason why that is going to slow down anytime in the near future. That puts them past NY by the end of the year or so, maybe a bit after. And that is assuming it doesn’t get worse with school reopening, people going back to work, etc.

A hotel where rooms are accessible from the outdoors are more likely to be cheap motels. Maybe those are less likely to undergo rigorous cleaning?

I’ve seen mask policies for several chains. I haven’t checked them all, but the only one I have for sure seen without one is Radisson.

Their COVID hospitalizations have been trending down for a few weeks. If we think those data are reliable (and that could be a big if), then we should expect the death rate to fall soon.

Aren’t the hospitalizations the thing that was taken over by HHS? If so, I’m not sure we can rely on hospitalization metrics anymore.

Is this an Onion site?

Yeah, but it’s a degree from BU.

I had to check, but it appears to be from the BU student newspaper. I will not be surprised to find out this was in fact really satire, but right now it’s not tagged as such.

The second tweet is even better

Also don’t think it’s satire

My vote is satire.

Based on the article, BU has been discussing this since January and it isn’t Covid related, so prob not satire but the timing of announcing this is not the best lol

Agreed, there’s a hell of a lot of overlap, especially in colder climates. You would specifically have to seek out a suitable one.
