So who is this clown? Hoover Institute at Stanford is going to impress the deplorables.

Being from the Hoover Institute, you can be sure that he sucks.

If he means TV, he’s not wrong.

UP ahead of the game, as always:

ETA- Wow at the Texas data. 24% positives and a 53% decline in testing.

They canceled picture day, I assume after a big backlash. So that’s good.

I assume the ice cream social is still on?

The shit that is going on in a lot of the country right now is pretty ridiculous. With the tremendous fatalities suffered in New York, we really aren’t in a position to say “I told you so” to anyone else. But it does provide a clear roadmap for controlling the virus, even if you have one of the worst outbreaks in the world. And it’s not a fucking mystery. Just do things like have lots of tests, wear masks, and maybe don’t reopen indoor dining.

There are still more cases than I would like, but we seem to have reached a steady state of 700-800 new cases per day, or less than 1 per 20,000 people.

Or, you know, just look at the example of almost every other country in the world.

You’re not convinced the cat died?

Man as much as I hated picture day–I can’t imagine during a pandemic + some dope is taking your temp first. I might’ve gotten into a physical altercation over this.

So I got a sore throat on Saturday night, 5 days after getting my blood stolen. Was scared, because despite everyone being masked there are a lot of people in a low ceiling room breathing the same air as you. Throat is still sore and I got tested Monday evening, whenever I get sick it always starts with a sore throat and what else could it be if I’m isolating for the most part with my wife. Anyway results were available 27 hours later in Toronto, despite the hospital’s website saying up to 7 days and the people at the hospital telling me probably 72 hours.
Anyway I tested negative, but how do I get sick when avoiding everyone while wearing a mask? Is it a disease I’m a carrier of having a resurgence or could it be some sickness I got from mosquitoes? I have been bit a lot of late while walking my dog

When did you get your test? Conventional wisdom is to wait 5 days at the earliest to get a test from when you think you were exposed.

Well here we are middle of August and it looks like the 7 day is in the 1400 range. I haven’t been able to look close but the 28 day cfr has dropped significantly. So either we are missing more cases, better demographics (less sick olds) or getting better at treating people. I’m inclined to think it’s much more of a combo of better demo and better treatment. Yes we are missing cases but I don’t think it’s more than in the Northeast wave. (Setting aside for moment that shenanigans may be a player in certain states).

Happy to be wrong about the low 2,000s. Note that every month that goes by, every case that happens later will have a little better survival rate than the month before as we get getter at treating Covid (and hopefully avoiding overloaded systems).

Sore throat could be a lot of things. Like acid reflux or an allergy or something.

Yeah, unless there are major shenanigans, we have to assume we are getting better at treating people along with the demographic shift.

We should be seeing more deaths by now otherwise, so some good news finally.

I did see something earlier today that says nationwide nursing home illnesses are on the rise. That fits the idea the June/July spread was among the younger crowd and would eventually get the olds.

Yeah, the concern is the deaths are coming, they are just delayed a bit more due to it being 2/3/4th generation being more in danger this time rather than 1st/2nd generation

And of course with places like Texas at 24% positivity and testing down so nobody knows what’s happening anywhere and then schools opening, it’s gonna be bad even if we are better at treatment.

I got symptoms on Saturday, got tested this past Monday which would have been a full week since they stole my blood on the holiday Monday
