COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

This is terrifying.

We got a lot better at treating covid patients. Great data exists for steroids bringing people back from the brink. Anticoagulation made so much sense and worked so well anecdotally that it was never truly studied before it was rolled out to the masses. NYC was so overwhelmed that people died because hospitals couldn’t keep up. How could it be the same?

Testing is a disaster right now. Not enough tests and huge lag times. Which means we are missing a ton of cases on the case side of the CFR calculation just like we were back in March/April. The only difference now is we have 2-3 times the confirmed positive case numbers.

It also explains how Florida can be “flattening” their curve. They simply aren’t testing enough for it to continue to increase. When your positivity rate is 19-20% for weeks you aren’t testing enough by definition.

I hope you’re right. I’ve been so incredibly pessimistic since literally February and I’ve yet to have my expectations met.

I cannot believe or understand what is happening now

It’s also possible some people are voluntarily modifying their behavior and that matters. The only problem with that is it seems as soon as the case numbers start going back down those people probably ease up and then we trend the wrong way again. Expecting “personal responsibility” to be the answer as they are in Florida is idiotic knowing what we know about our average Floridian.

I got shingles in my fucking eye and still take an eye drop every day to prevent a cornea scar from growing. It was closest I’ve ever been to understanding how someone could want to die.

Does anybody know how reporting of negative tests works? We discussed earlier that an individual with multiple positive tests will only be reported once - what about people like healthcare workers who might be frequently tested and frequently test negative? Is every negative test included in daily numbers?

Ya it’s getting a bit nuts. Thank god Calgary passed mandatory mask bylaw for all public places. It takes effect next week. Hopefully that stops the rise.

What’s the definition of a public space? Isn’t it more important for people to wear masks in, say, a grocery store as opposed to a park?

Everything. All stores, restaurants, transit, taxis, ride share, etc. Any indoor place you can meet someone no in your cohort. It’s pretty sweeping which is awesome.

Who out there is driving this? It takes some political courage to impose rules in Albertans aka Canadian Texans.

Why do we tolerate partisan politics in Usa#263573773? Makes no sense . Write in Monty Brewster in Dec.

Fantastic ad!

It’s not taxable until they actually pay it. Flying under the radar is the insane amount of state and federal income taxes that won’t be paid next year.

This isn’t hard. Don’t open nightclubs/bars until there are literally 0 new cases. JFC.

And above all, to wear masks correctly.

I’m going to get a bag and a bottle and watch that 300xs today.

So keep all bars and clubs closed forever.

Yeah, was pretty frustrated yesterday at the grocery store. A couple of olds stopped in the aisle to chit chat and of course pulled their masks down to hear each other better. Maybe not the best time and place for a neighborly catch up and at the very least leave your fucking mask on.

I wear a mask and believe in them but I hope the mask movement doesn’t backfire. Meaning masks alone are not going to flatten this. If the shit is still hitting the fan in 3-6 weeks the shitbirds will be saying I told u so. I’d like to see the science and math in regards to the average make shift masks being worn. I know every little bit helps, but imo most masks aren’t designed or utilized in a pandemic flattening manner.
