COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

Don’t worry, I was just told on facebook by a VERY knowledgeable person that some guy who knows another guy, that guy’s girlfriend or something, got covid and she ALWAYS wore a mask.

He said we’re all going to get it eventually and called us sheep because we don’t know it yet. So don’t worry, we’re all gonna get it anyway!

Good

I thought they were just gonna keep pushing it 2 weeks every fortnight for the next year.

Release it on demand already so I can watch it at home.

We’re all gonna die eventually too, not sure why we’d bother trying to avoid wandering into oncoming traffic.

Trump said something big was happening with Tenet in two weeks.

Yep. I think a lot of people were willing to give Trump’s Summer Hoax a shot. Hell, I held out hope. But now it’s clear that Trump’s plan to do nothing isn’t going to work.

There are now three groups of people.

  1. It’s a hoax!
  2. It’s not a hoax, but violating my freedom to violate your liberty would be worse than everyone dying of COVID
  3. This is a real problem that demands real solutions

The people in categories 1 and 2 are loud and causing a fuckton of damage, but they are a minority that is only getting smaller both 1) from getting punched in the face with reality and 2) from those idiots literally dying

Does anyone know what happened to California’s data yesterday? They only reported deaths from one county (LA County).

It has been a rough couple of weeks for the “but deaths aren’t going up” covidiot crowd:

Nationally two weeks ago we were at a 7DMA of 517. Today we are at 797 which is about a 55% increase in just two weeks.

What in the actual fuck? How can your manager be this fucking stupid?

Do you have an N95/KN95? If not, you should try to get a box of them ASAP.

Too embarrassed to assist with contact tracing for the loss.

Yeah, I saw that… Not sure what he did for the bathroom. I guess he Esfandiari’d it in the parking lot?

I also assume Whole Foods has free WiFi that stays on all night?

And a more slowly phased re-opening. If they reopened 2-3 weeks later, but went just as open as they did anyway, they’d still be totally fucked. They’d just be like 4-5 weeks behind the current pace.

Ah, well, if we’re all going to get it, we might as well race to see who gets it first. Why wait until there are newer, more advanced treatments and silly things like available ICU capacity?

Even with that, we were still only 2 to 3 weeks away from a bent curve. That’s what’s really depressing. If he had said that even 2 weeks later, our curve would look like Italy.

The reason our curve doesn’t look like Italy and never will is because their version of OPEN FOR BUSINESS is roughly what USA #1s shutdown looked like. Meanwhile our version of OFB is completely batshit insane.

So basically we aren’t willing to return to a state of restriction that will actually control the virus. Our shutdown was far too lax as is in most places. Masks will help some but compliance here will never rival the rest of the civilized world and I would be shocked if 60% of people wearing masks and full OFB otherwise can result in a R<1. At 70,000+ cases a day we would need literally months of R at like 0.8 to get cases down to a manageable level and I don’t see us ever reaching a long term R of 0.8 with what we are willing to do.

In short I think this rages until we have a cure/vaccine here unless we are willing to do at least a 2 month full blown shutdown. I would put the odds of that happening as very low.

I would love to hear a reasonable hypothesis how we reach R<1 while being OFB here. I really would because I don’t see it and it is depressing as hell.

He had McD’s cups and piss bottles. Seriously.

I like how you added seriously like I wouldn’t believe it. Online poker player pisses in a bottle in a parking lot isn’t exactly man bites dog.

Thats right, theres another video where he outlines his 32 oz gatorade piss jars

As of right now, it looks like the most successful blow up to return to low numbers place is New Jersey (still are waiting for any kind of big case rise again). I know we have some posters here from there. What’s different than New York or Pennsylvania that are now starting to rebound?

Vaccine just in time for the election?

My guess is that NJ is more uniformly liberal and non-deplorable enough to keep the statewide numbers down. Like Philadelphia is doing a pretty good job so far, so are the surrounding suburbs as far as I know. I assume the increases in PA are out in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylbama.

Same could apply to NY, where are the cases going up? Upstate?

Joe Biden wins in november and he gets on TV and says “I want all Americans to wear a mask at all times in public”… does anything even change, at all?

New York City is still above average in cases per capita in the last week. Oneida county is the only one that is a standout as higher than anyone else. Lots of small population counties have very low cases per capita.

Hard to tell if that would increase or decrease mask compliance or do nothing.
