I need a better answer than “a lot farther.” Give me a real answer. How far am I supposed to watch this go before I start thinking about how to get the fuck out? Give me some measurables. I promise you when they come in a week/month/year, you’ll still be saying “FFS get a grip!” That’s how this works.
I’m pretty sure in January 2017, secret federal police rounding up protesters off the streets of a US city with no badges, no identification, no communication with the public and no due process would have set off alarm bells for all of us. Now it’s no big deal?
Cuse is not right about us. There are 13 million undocumented immigrants in the US though. A few protesters will be/are being targeted and made examples of, but as far as masses of people in camps it’s not the WASPs who are at risk.
If I remember, I will tell you in a year to get a fucking grip.
As far as the sentence above the bolded, you’ll reach a limit to what you can watch before you go crazy. It’s sucks because I’ve read your posts for 15 fucking years and these issues ain’t from politics.
Yeah, I’m not so sure about that. I could argue it either way. The ones who are donating to support protesters, speaking out on social media, showing up at the occasional protest… I’m not sure how far our privilege extends.
I don’t know what all of this is supposed to mean.
Things aren’t going to be OK. The good guys aren’t going to win and we’re not going back to how things were.
Things also aren’t apocalyptic. The sky won’t fall. It’s not going to be Road Warrior anytime soon either.
Plan on everything consistently being a little bit shittier across the board for the foreseeable future and adjust for that scenario. There’s not much else you can do.
U will know by mid January 2021 if the teal shit is going to hit the fan and u will have a jump start on most trying to gtfo of here if that is what needed. It’s not going to be a Bronx Tale “ now u can’t leave” scene for quite some time, even if things turn for the hairier. Just have your ducks in a row then , just in case.
FYI, I found the guy @Fatboy8 has been copying the posts from (his friend is probably copy and pasting the posts from facebook and sending them to him). Because the posts are public on facebook, I’m going to say the guy doing those posts name is Steven Millman and you can find him in a quick search. The correct profile is Oak Hill, Virginia. It doesn’t look like he’s set up any kind of blog to do this work.
Based on going through a few of his posts, it looks like his data is ‘complete’ enough for him to now sit back and wait to see if his projections end up being right. He got into a pretty significant argument with a friend of his who disagrees with his conclusions. So now they’re both taking a step back to see who’s right over the next several weeks.
I’m having problems with water leaking in my apartment, presumably related to a/c ducts leaking. This means one or more maintenance visits are likely this week. I’ll leave the apartment for these, but I don’t want to have to wipe everything down. There’s about a 5% chance that the entire maintenance team wears a mask the entire time they’re in here. I’ve seen these guys in the empty unit nextdoor without masks, walking around the building without masks, etc.
I’m fairly confident a plastic tarp should do the trick to cover my sofa, bed, desk, etc so that I can at least avoid some of the work. I’ll still have to wipe down a lot of stuff in the kitchen. The tarp is 5 mil thick polyethelene. What do we think? Can I trust this to keep droplets/aerosolized particles off my furniture? It’s not super thick, but I feel like this material shouldn’t be porous.
Are you hiring them? Can’t you dictate what PPE they wear?
If not, IIRC, don’t you have a good supply of masks? You could say “Hey, before you enter I will require you all to wear masks while in my unit. Here are some masks. Here is some hand sanitizer, please sanitize up before entering”. Then maintain distance and watch them work and see what all they touch. If you leave, they will take the masks off immediately IMO.
