COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

This fool just fucked RBG.

Actually I don’t think I’ve ever said one time out loud in my life until just now for RBG. I’m not sure I ever seriously thought it.

Next is the “God I don’t believe in you, but just in case…”

Hey suzzer. Jaz here from Modern Travelworks. Just wanted to check in and see if you will be rescheduling your travel for Elena and Shane’s new wedding dates. Please let me know so that I can update the bride and groom accordingly.

This lovely text came in today for my cousin’s Cancun wedding in September, rescheduled from June.

I feel so bad for my cousin Elena. She’s sweetest person in the world, has no money, works 3 jobs. They’re probably hanging her over a barrel with money she’s already put down.

But I just don’t think I can. And I’m petrified for my aunts and uncles all over 65. I would be paranoid the whole time and wouldn’t have any fun. It sucks too because I was really looking forward to showing my family Chichen Itza and other stuff in the area.

I’m going to tell her that if I don’t go her wedding gift will be whatever I would have spent on the whole trip ($1500?). She’ll probably be rooting for me to not go at that point lol.

I have a feeling this decision is going to be made for her at some point. But Mexico is one of the few places American can still fly to (not drive) so maybe not.

I just hope this one time controversy doesn’t go all the way to the SC especially if RBG has to recuse.

I came an inch away from mowing some baby bunnies last year. My grass was really tall and the mom dug a little nest in the middle of the yard. I left it alone, put a warning sign next to it, and the babies were gone in a week or two.

Interesting thread that goes a long way to basically say that herd immunity (or some kind of high-water mark in deaths) with social distancing is about 15-20%.

Not sure I buy all the assumptions, but at least he acknowledges the thing is real and going to back to normal behavior is a disaster. The comments are also mostly sane and illuminating.

This is from the wikipedia of the guy he cites, Michael Levitt, as agreeing with him:

He has done research on Covid-19[41]

In March, he successfully predicted when the rate of increase in the number of deaths in China would slow down.[42] In a Stanford Daily interview during May, Levitt pointed to China, Italy and South Korea as countries that have experienced decreases in cases and deaths, and attributed the decreases to the countries reaching herd immunity at 30%, “You don’t actually have to infect everybody, depending on how fast the virus grows. Some people say 80% [of the population needs to develop antibodies], some people say 60%. I personally think it’s less than 30%. And some people are saying we’re never going to get herd immunity. I don’t think so.”[43] However, this assertion is problematic, as Levitt’s claim fails to account for the mitigation and containment policies taken by all three countries to reduce transmission and prevent deaths. Both China and Italy enacted large scale, and in some regions, draconian lockdowns to slow spread and suppress the number of cases low enough, to the point that test, trace and isolate practices could be enacted to contain it.[44] Meanwhile South Korea moved quickly, early on in the pandemic and enacted an aggressive test, trace and isolate approach to contain the virus before lockdowns were needed.[45] Such mitigation and containment policies were enacted for the specific reason of slowing the spread of the virus and to decrease deaths, therefore, Levitt’s claim that case growth and daily deaths decreased as a result of reaching herd immunity is questionable.

He predicted that there would be a slowdown in covid cases[46][47][48]

He accurately predicted the initial trajectory of the pandemic, and when China would peak.[ citation needed ] On the other hand, in March 2020 he made severely wrong predictions that Israel would suffer no more than 10 COVID-19 deaths[49], as well as that the USA will have a much faster coronavirus recovery than expected.[50] He says that the lockdown saved no lives, and may have cost more lives.[ citation needed ] He said to Neil Ferguson that there was an overestimation in potential deaths.[51] [52]

Ok so these guys are covid minimizers I guess.

Maybe, I feel like early on Levitt got a lot of attention and spectacularly flamed out. Both of these guys are treating people like numbers which I think is very problematic. There’s no way I would have leapt out with a deaths prediction like gummi did right as we’re beginning to surge big time.

I think the guy fatboy links to sounds reasonable and we’ll begin to know if he’s right in about 10 days.

Why are test results considered useless after 7 days? You might be recovered before you get them? Aren’t you infectious for like 3 weeks?

One of the more knowledgeable people can confirm, but I think one issue is that the tested sample is no longer viable after a certain length of time. It also makes contact tracing much more difficult. And too many Americans are really stupid and will spend the time between testing and results living life as they normally would.

I don’t know about the viability of the sample but the second point is spot on. Apparently most Americans are like Rand Paul and will use the cafeteria, gym, and pool while they are waiting for their test results. A test they likely took because of symptoms or known exposure.

So yeah finding out at day 7 may help but not much.

How about if you feel the need to take a test you stay the fuck home and isolate. It sucks. Call your Congress critter, Senators and President and complain.

Thanks! For destroying the local hotel and long term rental market. You’ll be missed.

This is such a weird take for a supposed progressive. It’s a bunch of small Business owners who “destroyed” the market for multinational hotel chains.

They just arbitraged laws/regulation. Like all “disruptive” businesses. They didn’t generate any value.

Worked as a nurse on the Covid floor last night. My hospital has 112 inpatient beds, counting 8 ICU beds.

Every one of them was filled when I left this morning at 7, and there were 19 people in the emergency room waiting to be admitted to a floor.
