COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

From the article

Doctors give patients echocardiograms only when they suspect there is a problem with the heart, so the high number of abnormalities is not unexpected. How common heart damage is in Covid-19 patients more generally is unclear.

I think if you are forced in I’d where a high end mask plus a face shield and maybe even some type of small hepa filter in your work space. Let them laugh at you. Tell your boss to take a flying leap if he tries to ban your protection.

Wtf

Anecdotally, I have a few family members on my wife’s side in Florida, and while they are obviously Floridians of a certain ilk, they aren’t suffering/scared/doing much of anything other than living their normal lives. Is there any chance that we (those of us sweating COVID-19 closely) are doing more of the suffering than they are?

Skimmed the newspapers in the major FL cities and while COVID-19 is getting attention, it’s mostly centered around the increasing number of positive tests and stories about the politics of the pandemic/mask wearing controversies, JAQing about how safe it is to go to the beach, etc.

I’m just not really seeing a ton of reports of widespread pain and suffering, bodies piling up, etc. It doesn’t make sense to me, but further reinforces that I’m in some kind of bizarro world where up is down.

If the 5000 people had all died in one place it’d make a big pile, but they’re spread out over the state. In a picture is worth a thousand words way probably 15 people dying in the same incident at the same time would make a bigger impact than 5000 people spread out.

So a SS holiday is pretty effin stupid when the problem is people not working.

One big problem with PUA at least in Penn is that earning a little bit is pointless. For me if I earn more than $170 in a week I make $0 marginal dollars for the next $600 or so I make.

“Return to work bonuses” lol sure can’t wait to get that when my workplace reopens in…maybe 2021? Republicans are going to just totally ignore the fact that a huge number of jobs aren’t coming back on August 1st.

You can still live a normal life. It’s just different compared to pre covid. Like, instead of going out to dinner, order pick up. Instead of going to a movie, go for a hike or something. But if you just stay cooped up and don’t go anywhere, yea you gonna suffer. Just be smart about it. Don’t go bar hopping or whatever.

It’s the most idiotic line you can take during a pandemic. Force even more people to go back to work at a time when we’re learning that going back to work has been a catastrophic disaster.

Literally working people to death. That’s the preferred outcome for Republicans.

You’re not wrong, but this is also a country that enthusiastically rejected gun control after a mentally ill person killed 20 6-7 year olds in minutes. So many Americans just totally lack empathy, you need to make them personally feel the fear. It can be done, Americans in the middle of nowhere were terrified of brown people in October 2001 after the dramatic imagery of 911 was pumped into their brains over and over again. But they have to see it. “Can you imagine the horror if …” does not work on 21st century Americans who have been taught that it is a virtue to care only about yourself.

Because their mindset is “We have bills to pay!” No thinking about UBI or freezing mortgages/rent.

Yeah Josh gotta get that both sides in to make sure everyone knows your unbiased. This is a tweet is actually a lesson in tribalism that we can all agree on and not that 54% of republicans are idiots for not wearing masks.

We have decided to homeschool in a bubble with 2 other families. My daughter has been looking forward to kindergarten for months but I just can’t justify sending her to school with incompetent leadership. This sucks.

On the plus side, each parent is picking a subject to teach. Everyone seems scared of explaining why 1+1=2 so I may end up as a math teacher
