Every single place in the US is going to get hit hard eventually if we don’t change course. Talking about seasonality in the USA is about as meaningful as arguing over how flooded your house is at 100 gallons a minute vs. 200. You are fucked either way.
The only proven strategy so far to combat Covid is social distancing, masks and testing/tracing. Like maybe the seasons matter some but it is a real long shot it gets better in winter and we know it is plenty bad in spring/summer so some people’s fixation on it seems really odd.
Good post and a good reminder that there is still plenty to enjoy safely in Covid times. Hike, camp, cook good food, drink great wine, see family and friends who are taking things seriously on your patio, etc.
I don’t really have anything to add or say other than god fucking damnit. Jesus fucking christ.
I hope there’s some good news on the horizon because for somebody that has been very mentally stable my entire life, the US outlook going forward is starting to cause me issues. Wife is starting to notice.
Seems unlikely. Unless the protein that induces most of the immune response is also the one that is altered to allow greater transmissibility.
We know (I think) that people who got SARS seem to do better with COVID, so it would seem that whatever is responsible for the immune response is at least somewhat conserved among various coronaviruses.
Ew, no. Great post overall, but truffle oil is gross. There’s basically zero actual truffles in that stuff. It’s just cheap vegetable oil and artificial flavoring.
This is accurate. Still a ton of otherwise smart people out there making daily bad decisions. The mask thing is almost a joke. What % of masks are actually helping? I know they are supposed to help but a fair amount of people refuse to wear them correctly. Too many people are just not interested in going to the proper lengths to secure anything but a nut low outcome.
It says that 2 of the 3 monkeys without the vaccine got pneumonia and that all 6 of the monkeys given the vaccine didn’t get pneumonia. That sounds pretty good.
