I have never seen more old people act like complete children than what’s happening now. I also commend the patience of the employee here

Yolo county preemptively closing all indoor bars, dining and indoor whatever starting tomorrow. We be responsible adults.
What exactly is preventing people in the 3060 zip code from going to a business in the 3061 zip code?
Pub crawling in Davis is gonna be a pretty short night.
Nothing Placer will ever do unfortunately. Our red runs deep. I can see South Lake Tahoe shutting down, but not Roseville/Rocklin/Auburn/Lincoln
It’s really amazing how much the rest of the country now contrasts with NY (maybe the whole northeast I don’t know). Like, we’re begging people to get tested. We have a massive number of drive-in testing sites all over the state open 7 days a week where you can call and get scheduled for a test like an hour later and wait 5 minutes in your car. We really need to petition Canada to annex us or something.
Yeah I tried pretty hard to find a place to get tested in Los Angeles today with no luck. Seems absolutely crazy to me.
NY passed a law yesterday effective immediately that nobody can be evicted for nonpayment of rent who is suffering from financial hardship because of COVID for as long as the COVID crisis lasts. Prior to that evictions had been paused since March via Cuomo’s executive order. So there’s that.
I tried again today. Five days out

It’s bad news for everyone. Most think that our best case scenario for a COVID vaccine is something that is like 70 percent effective. And that’s best case scenario. If only 50 percent of the public get a vaccine that is 70 percent effective then it’s going to suck for everyone, including the people who got the vaccine.
I mean, if they put it out tomorrow I would wait to take it. I want to see what Fauci and some independent doctors/scientists say, but assuming they are confident in the safety, obviously I will be rushing to take it.
This I agree with, but if the number is 50% who will never take it, we’re really and truly fucked because it sounds like the vaccines are only expected to be about 75% effective. That means we need basically everyone to take it.
This is very much a possibility. I think he’s going to try to get one out before the election. Warp speed!
Yeah I mostly agree. My friend from Houston today hit me with the “nobody in Houston saw this coming 6-8 weeks ago.” I bit my tongue, cause I warned him repeatedly 6-8 weeks ago. We didn’t speak from 5 weeks ago to a week ago because he got tired of it.
I’m less worried about proof it works in humans than I am about proof it’s safe in humans. We can be pretty confident it will work, and if it doesn’t, the worst case scenario is that we’re in the same spot we were in before. Judge your risk tolerance accordingly.
SWEDEN is putting a quarantine on us??? SWEDEN?!?!?!?!? That’s when you KNOW you fucked up. Aren’t they GOING for herd immunity? Let us in faster, we’ll speed it up for ya.
Had me going, obviously…
California appears to be testing a lot more, their hospitalization rate has been way lower.
I think they’re going to have to enforce wearing them, not just require that they be warn.
The main reason to be skeptical is that overall data about how many kids were infected or were the index patient for a household is pretty useless when the kids were done with school in like March. The main reason to be optimistic is the example of the kid exposing 80 other kids and none getting it. The question there is did none of them get it (like they were tested to confirm) or did none of them get symptoms (and they were never tested)?
Life comes at you fast.
I think it has just given them a sense of community and a knowledge that there are more of them out there, and there is safety in numbers. This, combined with Trump making their views socially acceptable nationally has been a horrible combination.
Apparently Pittsburgh is doing a one-week lockdown to cover themselves for Fourth of July weekend. Smart, but I’m sure the outrage will be massive and there will be plenty of house parties anyway.
I mean, we’re a ways out from this, but we’re going to have to pass a federal law mandating it and let the Supreme Court sort it out. The problem is, enforcing that would be extremely dystopian and make me deeply uncomfortable, but what the fuck are we supposed to do? Get ravaged by COVID-19 in perpetuity and be cut off from the global community because half of us are literally too stupid to know how to stay alive?
ROLL TIDE
Nah, it’s more complicated and nuanced than that. It’s about risk/reward for rushing things.
When they make a new vaccine, wouldn’t the basic building blocks be constant? Except for the virus-related part, obviously. I guess what I’m saying is that they’re not reinventing the wheel, I hope, and we wouldn’t be putting any newfangled unknown shit in our bodies. Would we?
Gotta draw the line somewhere. Also. The police.
Apparently they have some sort of number plate checking system.
No access to benefits, schools or hospitals without the vaccine.
Plus legalise businesses to request vaccine certification from customers and employees.
Maricopa County, Arizona.
