COVID-19: Chapter 4 - OPEN FOR BUSINESS

If its Edmonton, they are way lower in Covid than Calgary. In fact, that’s true of any city not Calgary.

You could self isolate for 2 weeks, then make the trip.

it’s actually spruce grove.

Sigh. Long-time lurker here. Thanks to everyone for the discussion. I teach public school band. There is a not-insignificant chance that my career is over until a vaccine is discovered. That’s a fairly sobering thought.

Sorry you are going through this. Hopefully it will be over sooner that most, including me, think it will be.

Welcome Bowens! Always good to see a 22er jumping ship to join us.

Also, sorry to hear about the job. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Unemployment sucks.

Fuck. I send half a dozen shipments there a week. The covid headaches are getting super real in trucking land.

Take heart, bowens. Covid-19 is doing its best to send more musicians to your great big afterlife band in the sky.

Which means what exactly? No bars or sporting events? Sure. Everything else seems super vague.

I nominate Sklansky to teach Matusow about math.

Deleted tweet that Danspartan posted above.

For those reheating their Takeout pizza - what settings are you using on the stove and how long ?

I’ll start this off by saying that I do not believe this “news” to be accurate. But the girl I used to date is now back to work, in Philadelphia, in defiance of stay at home orders. Her boss said it’s only two of them in there so if she’s cool with it then it’s safe, and my attempts to explain why this increases risk to them and others fell on flat ears.

Anyway, she told me today she learned at work that there may be a vaccine being distributed in the US in July if everything goes well. She said she “had a more direct source than the news.” She said this was not trials, but distribution, “with capitalism attached.” She said it would be an American company.

I kept saying no way, maybe trials in Phase 2 or 3 but nobody is on a timeline for distribution in July. She made a sarcastic comment about trusting the published news too much.

I think there’s about an 80% chance a client misunderstood what a Phase 2 or 3 trial is, a 19% chance a client is passing on bullshit from some right wing website, and a 1% chance some drug company is trying to convince the administration to let them skip trials and Trump is open to it.

Actually maybe I should put that way higher than 1%. Trump sees bad polling, goes all in on letting a vaccine happen early, and stakes his re-election on the gamble that it’s safe and effective. He has a complete disdain for human life, why not?

I guess I am lucky I can do contactless grocery pick up.

I agree. If you want to reduce risk and have a hug then throw a decent quality sheet over yourself. Saw that many times in the news out here for families of nurses.

I am playing with the idea of building a little plexiglas portable barrier. Set it on a patio table and visit on porch.

Just try and sit so any wind is crossways.

See lots of folks doing the outdoor deal a few feet apart. As long as her hearing is good.

Stay in a guest room with the window open and a fan. YOLO and your Mom needs you and you’ve been a good boy.

Here. Wat?

Sounds like you can buy your way to an untested vaccine!!! For the low low price of $250,000. Get em while they last. Must have 7 figure documented income or cash to qualify.

Sounds about right. But she seems to think millions of people could get them. Maybe the price comes down each batch? Would be kind of hilarious if USA#1 basically made billionaires pay huge sums of money to participate in clinical vaccine trials.

So you won’t order takeout (neither will I) but you’ll open your door when a rando knocks? I think we need a new derail.

You need one of those Chinese robot boxes to sit outside your door and yell at people trying to bring you burritos you didn’t order.

Dunno what I’d do if someone knocked to be honest - maybe silently hope they leave. It’s so encoded in us what the proper behavior is that it’s hard to respond properly to people being normal now without feeling like an enormously rude asshole.
