People are really still deluded about it. I had a DVC rental reservation for December (that I booked back before the pandemic). DVC rental is basically when you rent someone else’s timeshare, so it’s generally nonrefundable. I paid $2,000 for it. I contacted the person I rented from a month or so ago, who was really nice, and let him know there was no way we would feel comfortable getting on an airplane in December let alone going to a theme park and asked him to try to rerent the reservation if possible so I wouldn’t take a complete bath, and that I would take any price that wasn’t $0. Anyway, long story short, somebody jumped on the reservation for $1,600. People are still booking trips (nonrefundable ones!). That’s’ crazy to me.
Covid solved in Louisiana, -1,666 cases today.
Removed duplicates and out of staters
In a few weeks I’ll do some field reporting from the epicenter.
The difference is when New York had new case numbers similar to FL (2,950, 3,254 and 4,812 on March 19-21), the positive rate was about 30%.
Florida’s recent positive rate has been less than 15%.
It’s an oversimplification, but probably not too crazy to think that New York’s true number of new cases during those days was twice what we’ve been seeing in Florida.
My company in CAsometimesGOAT had manufacturing people working through the shutdown (“essential” company) and everyone else working from home. Everyone went back to work June 2 because “cases are down” (Narrator: they weren’t). Yesterday they sent everyone home because one of the engineers, who has only been in, like, twice in the three weeks we’ve been back, came into the office Tuesday and reported a high fever yesterday. Results should be back this weekend, at which time we’ll either be shut down for two weeks or we’ll be OPEN FOR BUSINESS.
Donate blood, get free antibodies test? Pretty brilliant
It’s almost like trying to have sports right now is a bad idea or something.
Like we all knew months ago, the only way we are playing any sports is if the leagues all accept that players are going to be getting infected and they are good with just carrying on business.
And negative for rona antibodies
You must be working really hard to keep yourself from getting infected in that setting.
Bummer I guess?
I feel like if you have anitbodies you know you had it. Mild cases don’t even produce antibodies in like 30% of cases right?
It’s both amazing and sad a bunch of random people on a tiny internet board are light-years ahead of the government and billion dollar corporations as far as having a pulse on what’s to come.
IT’S THE GODDAMN LOCKER ROOMS JFC
Everyone knows that anything anyone gets immediately blows up in the locker room.
Dumbass sports teams can’t imagine life w/o a locker room.
One thing that seems likely, and tragic, is that the lockdowns actually were pretty effective. Even half hearted ones. Caseload appeared flat because we were growing testing capacity, but in reality places like Florida had severe declines in caseload going well into May.
Once the cases get that low, it takes a while for them to start circulating in the community and getting the exponential growth roaring.
Then we pretty much threw it all away because we reopened too fast, and opened stupid reckless stuff like bars and bowling alleys, which gave people the impression it’s fine not to wear a mask.
Oh, and also, we told them it’s fine not to wear a mask.
I’ve got a patient whose mid Spring, family reunion cruise was cancelled, so to make up for the disappointment to his immediate family, he and his wife around Memorial Day placed deposits for them and their three teens to take a 4 day cruise at the end of August to Key West and Cozemel, with a likely extra few days hanging out in South FL.
It doesnt help that NHL players sometimes just lick each other in the middle of games.
I thought I saw a recent graphic for NYC that showed that approximately 30% of the Bronx has antibodies.
