COVID-19: Chapter 4 - OPEN FOR BUSINESS

“Formerly”

They are consistently the dumbest people. Also consistently the loudest unfortunately.

Yeah, I posted deliberately this morning that it’s an important week for COVID watching.

Well, today’s results are so bad the rest of the week basically cannot be salvaged. And we’re just getting started.

It’s clear now. The “second wave” or whatever we wanna call it is upon us. Opening for business has failed in any reasonable sense.

Get ready for a new idiotic deplorable line, which will last a few weeks:

“The number of CASES is going up, but the DEATHS keep going down! Everything is fine they’re just testing more!”

Obviously that’s easily explained, but I guess we need to wait a full fucking month now before deaths have a clear undeniable upward trend before everyone with a brain accepts that opening for business was a failure.

Although by then they’ll probably just think it’s time to replay their greatest hits again. “Death is just a transition to a different stage of being” is my personal favorite.

yeah, one of the commenters said the same thing :joy:

No, guy is definitely white. In news of the least shocking variety, he also posts about how protesters should just comply with the cops if they don’t want to be teargassed, etc.

So apparently to sum up the Garrision worldview on Covid.

  1. Don’t live in fear
  2. Don’t believe CNN
  3. Stop snitchin’
  4. (No idea what Agenda 21 is, not googling it)
  5. Freedom can only come w/o safety
  6. Masks are medical tyrrany
  7. Kids need to catch covid to keep their immune system healthy
  8. Bill Gates is evil
  9. Don’t do what you’re told
  10. Vaccines are bad
  11. Masks are a form of virtue signalling
  12. Masks are a way to blame Trump
  13. If we wear them now, masks will never go away

Lol looked up Agenda 21. It’s basically addressing climate change. The horror of these monsters supporting it!

My guess is that “ping pong” is a euphemism.

Dude on the right is smirking throughout. I was cracking up, if I was on that County Board I’d have been falling out of my chair laughing at her… Especially butchering the words on her cute little song.

Nope, sorry. THOSE BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTESTING SNOWFLAKE ASSHOLES KILLED 2 MILLION AMERICANS!!!

Unless the police are telling you, then do what you’re told or it’s justifiable if they kill you.**

** Unless you’re white, then do whatever the hell you want.***

*** Except wear a mask, never wear a mask. You don’t let other people tell you what to wear!****

**** Unless it’s a red hat, then do as you’re told.

Alright, this is using the new method. I’m using total cases in the last three weeks, 10-16% being hospitalized, and then offsetting the fact that the last several days of cases won’t be in the hospital yet by adding 4 days to the front end of the range and 7 days to the back end of the range. Occupancy is based on the national annual average of beds full for general stuff (61%) plus the COVID cases. On Texas, I put in the actual percentage of non-covid beds currently taken, since I have it available. Beyond Arizona, South Carolina, Florida and Oregon appear to be the ones to watch right now.

Oregon paused its reopening a few days ago, which appears to have been a very well-timed and necessary decision. Right as the effects of that are kicking in, they’ll be dangerously close to an overflow situation. Hopefully whatever they did gets them back to an R0 < 1, because they don’t have much room for error.

The Florida numbers are based on the official ones, the fired lady’s numbers being plugged in would give 43 days as the average time to overflow on total hospital beds. On that note, remember that this is for regular hospital beds, not ICU beds - that gets even trickier, and should be factored in. But we’re already seeing Arizona start to spill over on ICU beds. So we can guess that it may run about a week ahead of the regular hospital bed overflow.

Also, I think the new model shows that Vermont bears more watching - note that it’s only at 65% capacity by my model, which means the tipover is based on the R0 and the total beds per capita in the state not being super high. It’s a weird thing with a state that small. If they contained the outbreak it’s no big deal, but if not it wouldn’t take long to crush their hospitals at that R0.

I think what this is most useful too is finding which states we should be trying to dig into for specific hospitalization data a week or two out, and from a broad perspective analyzing when numerous states are going to be in bad shape at once - thus drawing immense national attention. It appears that when Arizona goes over, South Carolina and Oregon will be close enough to get some attention and Florida could start to get into the conversation - especially if some regions are particularly hard hit.

Given that Arizona’s best case scenario is to overflow regular beds in 15 days, there is basically nothing that they can do at this point to avoid that other than expanding capacity and getting Trump to get FEMA to send ventilators.

Well shit. I have to work in FL next week. I think I only need to interact with 1 person, but I’m staying in a hotel and I don’t know what I’m going to do for food.

I haven’t followed Rogan in a long time but I saw this on Reddit. Seriously fuck this dude. Like I want to shame him out of the party but at the same time he controls so many god damned idiots who could vote for us…

Cliffs: Says we can’t do a second lockdown and people wearing masks are bitches. Bonus Bill Burr absolutely fucking bodies him as per usual. Burr is one of the few comedians who don’t need to suck Joes dick for success so he just absolutely shreds him every time he’s on and its glorious.

Edit: Looks like Rogan is also on team Trump now

“I’d rather vote for Trump than [Biden],” said Rogan. “I don’t think [Biden] can handle anything. You’re relying entirely on his cabinet. If you want to talk about an individual leader who can communicate, he can’t do that. And we don’t know what the fuck he’ll be like after a year in office. “The pressure of being president of the United States is something that no one has ever prepared for. The only one who seems to be fine with it is Trump, oddly enough.”

I apologize for ever defending this fucking idiot

SC is at 540 hospitalizations and 68% capacity

TALLAHASSEE — As the number of Florida coronavirus cases continue to climb and after his own administration announced that those who work at elder care facilities must now be tested, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he’s not considering another shutdown.

“We’re not rolling back,” DeSantis said during a news conference when asked whether he would consider stopping some reopening efforts. “The reason we did the mitigation was to protect the hospital system.”

On Tuesday, Florida reported 2,783 new coronavirus cases, more than it has ever recorded in a single day. It was the fourth time in six days that the state reported a record number of cases.

:goldstar: (why is there no emoji?)

I also track R^2 in my sheet so I can readily tell which trends are strong vs some noise artifact.

These people just trot out excuse after excuse hoping something sticks but this increase in testing is the worst. Who gives a shit when the total positives are A)rising rapidly B)setting a new record every day for daily positives. You could test the whole damn state, either way the equation=fucking disaster.

Maybe you could add Trumps 2016 margin or maybe the margin of their last governed elected. Present as R+ or R- if a dem won.

Methinks there might be a correlation.

We could change the behavior in all those states and still the next month is set in stone.

As a dispassionate scientist I’m in for the experiment at this point. As a human I’m aghast at the stupidity and scared of the collateral tragedy. I’m having a hard time working up sympathy for the self owned. But man if Trump has lost in 2016 all these idiots would have crawled back into their holes instead of feeling so emboldened.

These people existed before Trump. I know it seems like they are a programmed cult but I knew lots of people who reveled in their “common sense” and hatred and distrust of smart people. To me this is more of true colors type of thing so fuck em. The ones that are sheep to Fox maybe pulled along as cult members.
