Is it that NYC’s lockdown has been really strict or are NYC’s numbers dropping so much because they already to have something like herd immunity?

The vast majority of people here are taking it seriously and wearing masks and distancing. I think it really comes down to something that simple.

I mean I’m in Greenville county we are a nationwide epicenter, and no one here is taking it seriously still. My guess is that it will change in a few weeks

San Diego’s doing pretty well

They are going to spend all that time breathing on each other playing basketball. Seems like minimizing the ping pong risk is kind of like closing the barn door after the horses are all out.

People are still taking it very seriously and social distancing, and it takes a long time for numbers to ramp up under those conditions (and in general).

But once they start going up, it’s really, really hard to get them to stop going up.

NYC did it, very dramatically.

It’s hard to get a handle on what the lockdown has been like there. It has been fairly shutdown here in SoCal and generally pretty high mask compliance until recently. Maybe it was much stricter in NYC. Or maybe there’s been a lot more immunity.

Meanwhile SC is open for business
We’ve had 2000% increase in the last 15 days in my county. Meanwhile no one wears masks and even my more liberal neighbors shrug their shoulders, don’t social distance, and tell me “we can’t just stop living!” Many have the option to work from home but are not.

If this rate continues I’m pretty sure we will be like NYC. DHEC’s best guess is about ~3% of the population is currently infected. I’m thinking we will be seeing double digits by end of June at this rate

I’m not sure about SD - but until 2 weeks ago the beach area of LA by me was being pretty cautious I felt. It’s really only been in the last 2 weeks that I think we might be in trouble - maybe in like 4 more weeks it will really show up.

I keep coming back to knowing that we are in big trouble. It is coming like a wave that it is probably already too late to stop in a big swath of the country. Are these places really going to double down on stupidity? Do these morons not realize they are making the pain as bad and as long lasting as possible?

We could have already been on the other side of this with any kind of national leadership. That is so so so infuriating. Having to have conversations with high risk family members where they make all the same dumbshit anti-mask arguments we have all seen has worn me down. Its hard to know who to rage harder at. Trump? Fox News? Them? The overall cesspool that is USA #1?

I don’t see all these morons turning back. The exact class of people who never admit any fault or that they are wrong are firmly entrenched on the wrong side of this issue. The corporate overlords don’t care. Certainly Trump is never doing anything. We are fucked. Period.

Good ole Lynch’s. Used to go to this place frequently back in the day. It’s no surprise that it would be the epicenter for a superspreader event.

Jesus, these people write at a sixth grade level. On a good day.

Go’s?

I would feel bad if they’re Latinx but apparently not if they think it’s quevos, not huevos.
