COVID-19: Chapter 4 - OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Wow tripling in less than two weeks. And not small numbers either.

Beijing schools close again amid ā€˜severeā€™ new outbreak

Earlier we reported that a cluster of new cases connected to a Beijing market in China is causing serious concern.

Now all schools have been ordered to close in an effort to contain the outbreak.

The first case, linked to a market, was recorded on Thursday and cases have been rising since then. Beijing had not seen any new cases for more than 50 days before this.

Schools and universities reopened just a few weeks ago, but now classes will once again go online. Entertainment venues will also close, and people must be tested before they will be permitted to leave the capital.

Lots of variables will affect the % of tests that are positive, but itā€™s still interesting to look at.

I agree. But losing a child suddenly is something I donā€™t think any of us can imagine unless weā€™ve been through it. That funeral and the outpouring of support is massively vital for the grieving immediate family.

The CDCā€™s apparentā€¦ defense?ā€¦ is that they were just intentionally misleading the public about the utility of masks so that doctors could still get them:

Fauciā€™s comments echo those of Surgeon General Jerome Adams on March 2, when he said that the increased demand for masks was putting medical professionals at risk.

A few days earlier, he tweeted that masks were ā€œnot effective in preventingā€ COVID-19 in the general public, saying, ā€œSeriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS!ā€ He later reversed his advice.

Fauci explained the early advice against masks by saying: ā€œThe public-health community ā€” and many people were saying this ā€” were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment, including the N95 masks and the surgical masks, were in very short supply.ā€

(Heā€™s even internalized his bossā€™s ā€œmany people are sayingā€ tic.)

The more I think about, the madder I get that they havenā€™t even picked a high-level scapegoat to fire.

My patient lost his 24 year old niece two weeks ago. Her bone cancer went into remission in the fall and then came back with a vengeance in the spring.

On top of this her mother (patientā€™s older sister) had just died last year of cancer in her 50s.

Nonetheless, the nieceā€™s father did not attempt to hold a service for his daughter because of COVID.

Not having to go to funerals is one of the few good things about living through a pandemic. Iā€™ve got a lot of family that Iā€™m hoping to benefit from.

But the govt would never intentionally lie to us about vaccines right?

I mean how do you counter that argument?

We just have regular cloth masks. I think she is leaning no-go, but details are still emerging. Thanks for the advice, all.

ETA - I donā€™t know that anyone is expecting us to go per se, or that it would necessarily cause hard feelings with the immediate family. I donā€™t have evidence to support that the Floridians are particularly nutters. All the info is coming in 3rd hand, so I donā€™t want to assume the worst without evidence to support it.

There is a lot of hate in this world.

Right now about 90% of it is concentrated in my feelings towards the people in that comment section.

Well, Dr. Acton was forced to step down, so there something for ya.

Itā€™s one of the most damning single acts the government has done. It created ambivalence on the mask issue that lasted for critical weeks, and has now cropped back up in a serious way. If they had talked about the importance of face coverings (differentiating from medical masks) from the get-go, we would quite possibly be in a much better position today re: mask compliance, usage of the correct types of masks for different situations, mask production, overall COVID caseload, trust in government, tens of thousands of dead people, OFB, etc.

The idea they were trying to shore up medical providersā€™ supplies by lying, instead of, you know, actually producing additional masks or merely withholding guidance for a few days and allowing medical providers to shore up supplies on their own, is just awful. A fatal misstep on many levels. Not least of which is it probably really slowed private sector mask production during a critical time.

The fact heā€™s able to get away with this and not have it completely tarnish his name and the entire COVID response is a condemnation of our media and public discourse. It makes me furious.

SC totals in:
595 new cases (flat from yesterday)
13.7% positive tests (+4.6% from yesterday, in line with %s from late last week When new records were set)
Hospitalizations 571 (up from ~535 yesterday)

All in all pretty awful and I donā€™t see how the 2900 prediction hits. 1970 after 3 daysā€¦

Posting this that was included in a tweet upthread so that it stands out more.

When this is over, in a few years, when we calculate the cost to our country to provide healthcare to those who have long-term complications, I may turn into a conservative.

Yeah, sure, weā€™ll take care of your medical costs. But before we give you those sweet socialist medical benefits, Iā€™d just like to do some means testing:

What means did you use to try to avoid your risk of catching coronavirus? Oops, sorry, I see a Facebook post here in which you shared Plandemic, said it was just like the flu, and called mask-wearing an act of snowflakey cowardice. Looks like youā€™re going to have to bootstrap your way to that long-term medical care, there, bud.

Yeah the ship has sailed on that.

Georgia 7DMA hit a new high. Oklahoma and Nevada new daily highs.

Thereā€™s going to be a ton of this stuff for the next few weeks most likely. Many many such records set every day.

Sure you do, I bolded it for you. Santa Rosa County is also basically the Alabama part of Florida.

(Kidding though, Iā€™m sure like 5-10% of Santa Rosans are not nutters, hopefully your wifeā€™s family is in the good 5-10%.)

Theyā€™re lying. The evidence on masks was somewhat ambiguous. They really didnā€™t think it would help. They did it for the Karens and because they reason worse than Mason Malmuth. If itā€™s not conclusive that masks help but they might, thereā€™s no reason not to instruct people to wear them since thereā€™s no downside and even a huge upside as apparently it causes derpers to die of carbon monoxide poisoning.

What a cock

Raises hand. Yes it was remarkably helpful for healing. I donā€™t know what to say in this time.

Is it even better to lie and say they were lying, than to be honest and admit they are so dense they couldnā€™t see masks would have a benefit? Does it even matter that much which is true, or if itā€™s a little bit of both?
